Hi guys

I was wondering if you pay PST and GST when you're buying stuff from Canadian dealers ? Assuming the dealer is out of your province, obviously... Looks like some companies charge both PST and GST, and some others only GST... Is it linked to what is sold ? Or the country of origin like with the US-to-Canada customs ?

Thanks !

Most Dealers will charge you both, knowing that most Provinces have a PST...except Alberta.

The NSXCC members get 20% off parts from our Sponsoring dealers (Acura Of Oakville and Erin Mills Acura), and if you factor in shipping cost you will be paying more for these parts for sure.

Alberta has no PST.
I buy most parts from the US. If shipped via USPS/Canada Post, 1/10 shipments are checked by customs and then there may be GST and/or duty. Even with shipping the price is better on most parts from the US. (and I don't pay PST in Alberta) There are exceptions, like OEM brake pads are less in Canada than the US /with shipping.

There should never be duty for a car part for an auto that is more than 20 years old. (considered classic) I fought that and won with UPS years ago with classic mustang parts. They refunded me the duty charged, but not the brokerage fee.

If I buy anything from outside Alberta, but from within Canada, legally, the vendor cannot charge me PST, (GST only) as I am not a resident of that province and the product is being sold outside that province. I won that argument as well with a cellular hands free kit bought from a vendor in Ontario.
