First thread. No flames please.
Always been a fan of the NSX.
From my observation I noticed some NSX's have an all black top,
& some are body colored. All the NSX's listed as targa tops seem to be body colored & the Black tops are listed as "coupe"
Is there a year when the Targa top came in black(Not the Berlina NSX).
Is it a plastic/vinyl cover or painted a flat black & if so is it possible to do a conversion of the roof A pillar & C pillar, or would it have to be painted.

I guarantee no flames if you use the FAQ & search options

All the basic information about the NSX including changes by year, color changes and model info is covered in there.

An excerpt from "changes by year":

Changes for 1995
Added targa top version: the NSX-T
Only -Ts were avilable in 1995 in the US; coupes were unavailable.
Roofs now all body colored
New color: Midnight Pearl
Not Available in '95: Grand Prix White

The only aberration was the Brooklands Green Pearl offering a painted roof in 1994. Otherwise, all tops were black until 1995.

The tops are all aluminum and painted black. I have read of conversions both ways, i.e. targa to coupe, coupe to targa. But is gets very pricey and the finished product can often be unreliable (leaking, noise, poor fitment.) Is that what you mean?

If you're asking about simply painting the top a different color that is easy. The windshield should come out and the aluminum side panels come off easily. That's how to do it properly.

It is painted (not a plastic/vinyl cover) and it is not flat black. If you are asking if you could paint your NSX-T (Targa is not actually correct when describing the NSX with removable roof) then yes, it has been done a few times (see http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61106&highlight=nsx-r for a T converted to a Coupe) and see http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57425&highlight=nsx-r+supercharger for a T left a T, but painted to look like the coupe.
It has been far more common for the owners of 91-94 model coupes to paint thier black roof body color to update the look (which I have to be honest, I like the black roof on the coupes, especially white ones).

Thanks guys. Ive always admired the NSX. but now since they are getting a little older im thinking i might actually be able to afford one thats like 11 or 12 years old. I cant explian why I like the black tops I just do but I also Like the Idea of being able to take the top off. So looks like Ill have to look into a 95 - 2001 body style. Again thank you. No further reponses needed.
