Not that I would, but has anyone ever gotten an estimate or the urge???

I have seen a 91 NSX that got this done and it took forever to sell on ebay (not even sure if it was ever sold??). Any thoughts?

Very tempting idea, Khue.

But those who shop around for these cars are usually of the knowledgable consumer types. They know the NSX inside and out.

Shoppers would like to get the car as close to stock as much as possible and do their own magic to it.

If they see a targa on a 91-94, chances are, they might not go for it because it's been "molested." This is how I would look at it anyways.

Besides, there is always the argument for lack of stability.

Hey khuezee,
I battled w/ that same decision a while back - I saw that car on eBay, and was tempted by the thought of a Targa at '91 prices, here's the thread:
http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003657.html

As you can see, the members of this group spoke w/ a single voice: RUN LIKE HELL away from that thing!

The link to that '91 targa conversion on eBay is gone now, but I'm certain it was the same one, it was black w/ nice rims and in NYC area. It went thru eBay ~5 times - at first the guy was starting the bidding at $34K or $32K, and it never got a bid. Then he put it back on w/ no starting bid, and the car always got bid up to around $29K or $30K, but never hit reserve. then finally, months and months later, he posted it again w/ no reserve, and it sold for $29K and change. Remarkably high, I thought, but shows you how much demand there is for a targa at '91 prices. Sheesh, why didn't Honda think of that way back when? ;-)

SNDSOUL and I had pondered this thought for a few days once. He made some calls and found a place out in Cali that would do it for $8500.00... We found that to be a little ridiculous. I'd rather sell my car and buy a 95. I think the difference would be way less, and i'd feel much safer in a factory targa car. Try a search for 'Targa' and you should get plenty of threads. Not many pro's, but PLENTY OF CONS in those.

If that's your car in the avatar, don't even think of it, NSXnBRLA!!! The white with the WW (yes?) & black roof looks really great. The WW seems to particularly complement the white car.
I used to think I would prefer a targa, especially in CA, but now I can honestly say I prefer the coupe & prefer the black roofs - on any color except green (which doesn't have enough contrast for me with the black roof - probably why Honda changed that color roof before the targas' intro)
Addition of tint to windows completes the cockpit look.
Sorry if 'm diverting the topic from targa to black roof, but feel they're related.

How about getting a sunroof? I've enjoyed mine a lot... but no one recommended I buy the car :-)

OTOH, it's pretty convenient...

I have a '91 Targa conversion (by Newport (Calif.) Auto Engineering). Cost was approx. $8,500 in'93. Problems include leaking and mild squeaks from the cowl. I need to get all the rubber seals replaced so that will be an expensive pain. <Anyone know of a co. near DC that can do this?>
I DO love the targa top and paid a good bit less than a '95 T- they were at least $10k more when I bought mine 3 years ago. I'd recommend a '95 T, though or the sunroof (not quite the same) - saw a nice NSX sunroof from a Dutch company and can get more info on that if needed.
