Hello guys,

maybe the next time you guys get pulled over, try being honest. it worked for me. let me tell you what happened.

Friday night, I am in Burbank, CA close to the Burbank mall and restaurant areas. I make a left onto 1st street and I am about 100 feet or 1/4 block distance from the intersection. The light turns yellow and I just gun it. Next thing I know, a cop pulls me over. And the following conversation begins:

Cop: "License and registration please. (Long pause) Do you know why I pulled you over?"

Me: "Yeah, It must have been because I ran that yellow light."

Cop: "At least your honest about it...that is the problem with you kids (i am 25 btw), you own these nice sports cars such as an nsx and drive wreckless through the streets without knowing your limits. This is the kind of behavior that gets your license revoked."

Me: "Well officer, to tell you the truth. I know exactly how to drive this car. Based on safety driving classes and also extensive hours at the track, I do the limits of the car. I would not have ran the yellow light without knowing that I wouldnt have made it. Otherwise, I may have potentially cause dangerous road conditions for other cars and drivers around me.

Any way I can get away with a warning??"

Officer: "How many tickets have you got in this car?"

Me: "None. You can check for yourself."

Officer: "Sit tight, I'll be right back."

Me: I get out of my car, and then explain to him that I am lost getting to this chicks house for a date.

Officer: "This is your lucky day, scram kid before I change my mind.

Me: "Thank GOD!!!"

Well, that is my first altercation with my NSX and local authorities. People still cant believe it when I tell them, cause they tell me that Burbank cops are the worst. I am an asian guy and the cop was white. I guess I am a smooth talker...haha

Cheers,

Khue

You're extremely lucky! I would not have gotten out of my car like that. Never know if you've got a paranoid/trigger happy cop...

Wreckless = Good
Reckless = Bad

Congrats on the escape.

Several years ago I was driving one of my former Japanese twin turbo cars and got pulled over for going 65mph in a 35mph zone (I know... I was younger back then and much more reckless).

I thought for sure I was going to get a ticket, but instead, the following conversation took place:

Officer - You know you were speeding.
I - Yes, officer, I know... it was a very stupid move on my part

Officer - A young guy like you in a muscle car... you know what? I understand...

(I didn't know where he was going with this comment so I kept quiet.)

Officer - Tonight is your lucky night. I've got a lot to do and have no time to write up a ticket. So I am going to make sure that this car is not stolen and then I am going to let you go.

He meant it, and I got out of that situation without a ticket.

To this date I still can't believe I got out of that one.

"you own these nice sports cars such as an nsx"

at least the cop knows his sports cars...

You ARE pretty lucky.... am told that if you get out of the car, particular if told not to, this is often considered behaviour that warrants additional scrutiny. I've heard that cops can search your car because of this, at least in some places.

Let's be careful out there...

i just got out of a speeding ticket in court tonight for doing 85mph in a 55mph. the cop didn't show and he wrote asking the judge to continue the case to another date and the judge denied due to the courts being backed up :-) whew

I wish I could have had some of this kind of luck earlier today when I got gunned doing 65 in a 45. The cop didn't ask me why I was speeding, all he said was how fast I was going. So I never really was given the opportunity to talk my way out of it. I guess I should be happy he didn't give me a fix-it ticket for no front license plate. That was the only part I was able to talk my way out of. I guess I will be attending an online traffic school in the near future. I can hardly wait.

Redline Rex,

I thought it is perfectly okay to drive without a front plate here in CA?

My daily driver has been without one for years!

BTW, re: traffic school. Little known fact that not many people know about is that the IMPROV (comedy) hosts traffic schools. It was designed to take the drudgery out of traffic schools with humor while at the same time, you're able to serve your sentence.

At least, that's an option here in L.A.

Might wanna look into it.

In the Chicago area, you can do your traffic school naked, and great refreshments are available.

There's an internet option, so you can do it out of the comfort of your home. In whatever style you like.

Glad to report that I have walked away from about 6 tickets already. 3 was with the SDPD, 1 was with the SDSP, 1 with the college police, and still another with the CHP. The funniest one was the one with the SDSP officer up in Encinitas beach city. At first he was like: "What the hell? You were peeling out, You were going sideway, and you were doing 70 already in a 35mph zone. Is there any reason for this?" To add to the drama. One SUV that I just passed down the road pulled up along side of us, and the driver gave the officer the thumb up and thank him for pulling my ass over. Seeing that this might be one hell of a situation, I just quietly let the officer know that I am currently going to the police academy, and the reason why I pulled such stunt was because of the lady (Denise) in the car. She wanted to know what the car is capable of doing, and I happily obliged. You know what he did; he went "Let me take a look at the woman you are with, then I am going to decide whether to give you a break or not?" He stepped over, took a good look then looked at me then said "Take it easy, you don't want to crash both her and the car," then he let me went on my way. This wasn't over yet; as I was riding behind him, all of a sudden I heard the unmistaken sound of two car colliding together. We came upon the scene. Low and behold, a brand new Camry just took out an NSX parking on the road. (Ohh, I forgot to get the Vin of this NSX, but the NSX is an earlier model red with black top, and stock wheel, but powder coated in a black color. Don't know who it is, but you might as well add it to the list of totalled NSX out there.) Well we came out and give the officer a hand. And check this out, the driver of the Camry took off, leaving his lady friend and the car on the train track. Fucking great guy I am telling you, a lot of character. But I guess he saw me coming, and he didn't want to test the patience of the main guy in the SDNSX group. But still though, leaving his girl on the track like that, danm. They eventually caught the SOB, and we was on our way. Then we came up on brand spanking new 2002 Iola Orange parked in a very dark location all by itself, guess a drug deal must be going down. Ohh, I love this city, full of great people and things.

I had two close calls....

First Encounter: Driving without headlights (forgot to turn them on...no wonder the streets were dark...hehehe...)

Cop pulls me over and after like 20 apologies, the cop checks my license and registration and lets me go.

Second Encounter: Ran a red light turning right without yielding to oncoming traffic.

Cop pulls me over and asks for license and registration. He then asks me about my driving record. I told him that I had no tickets before. He then paused and said "I'll let you go this time cuz I don't want to break your perfect record" What a nice cop!!

These potential tickets really help me with my insurance......thank God!!

You know, I'm wondering if not having any tickets on your record plays a factor in their letting us go. I've been pulled over twice for speeding in my NSX, but have never been ticketed.

That said, I was hardly speeding in both cases (maybe five miles over tops). I think it more that they wanted to put the scare in me than really ticket me.

Well... Taking it over the 'net took zero time to travel to the school, and zero time to wait for the school to begin. The content was okay, and it only took about half the time of the in-person school. Did I like it that way? Heck yes!

The entering website is here but you need an ID to get to the actual course content.

How fast were you going, and what was the speed limit, nsxtasy

Since we're telling stories...I got pulled over for not having my lights on as well. Also, I didn't have my real license, but had it copied on the back of my gym card. I told the cop I didn't want to lose my real license at the gym so I left it at home. He gave me a strange look, but let me go *PHEW*.

Gotta say... you guys are lucky. I got a ticket a few weeks after I got my NSX for a whooping 75mph in a 65 zone in lane 4 (of 5). Yes, thats the fourth lane over from the Right side! I was actually probably going about 72 as I was watching the speedo VERY carfully.

Cop comes over to my car, asks for licence and registration(says nothing else) walks back to his car, comes back with ticket in hand, says "sign here" , hands it back to me and says, nice car.. and leaves! I didnt even get to say anything?!? I thought he was going to initiate some sort of conversation or SOMETHING! It was so dumb, here I was in the second to the slow lane, being passed by EVERYONE, and I get the ticket. BAH!

my turn,
going to a Halloween party this past Saturday nightI'm going down a well known road for street racers. I'm in a 45 zone and am doing 43. My wife looks over at me and starts complaining about how SLOW I'm going. I ask her if she wants me to get a ticket or something. She just sits back and starts breathing heavy, no reply though. I then come to a red light and am making my left turn and decide, to show her what my little red car can do. So I hang the corner pretty good and wind out 2nd to around 7k with the BBSC just singing away and I'm thinking of how cool I am. I glance down at the speedo and see I'm doing around 60-70! I then look up and see a single pair of headlights coming at me, sure enough, Jacksonville's finest is on patrol. I immediately come of the gas and let the car engine brake to get back to a reasonable speed. Scanning the mirrors I see him hit the brakes...but doesn't turn around. No ticket for me tonight. I was mad as hell at my wife at first for irritating me earlier and causing me to do that. Then I realized that I was driving and not her so I did it just to show off. Won't do that again.

bit off the topic but i reckon "92NSX" is a beautiful username...

I've heard a lot of other stories where cops pull over exotic cars simply coz they want a ego/power trip. And also a rare story where the cop simply wanted to talk to the owner coz he admired the car! (a Ferrari 360)

My opinion is that it is based on what the cops thinks of you from THEIR initial impression. I have not had a ticket since '93 and he had no problem writing up mine. Keep in mind that I am in my mid twenties with a shaved head (keeps my head cool while MTBing). He probably thought I was just some young punk kid with rich parents. Bottom line is that I was speeding and got caught (this time). Just my $0.02
