TAITEC GT Lightweight Exhaust clear Laguna Seca?

with cats.....close ...without forgetabout it...find out where on the track the recording equipment is located and just coast by off throttle if you are fearful.I was flagged at lrp which is 89 db without cats.

Not a chance without cats and probably still not a chance with cats. I have that same exhaust with high flow cats and I replace it with my stock exhaust and high flow cats when I go to Laguna.

In another thread we recommended these silencers and according to some, they should bring the GTLW within acceptable limits at Laguna.

A race track with a sound limit is pretty funny. What's next? A speed limit? California is truly a socialist State!

Beats driving 3hrs to the boonies to drive though. I would gladly run a stocker to have track days in my backyard.

Exactly what i thought when i saw that - theres no way a RACE TRACK has a sound limit? Whos complaining? What is there a house right next door?

We have those in Seattle and Portland as well, what is it is that the track was built in the middle of nowhere in 25-40 years ago. Then people started to live around the track as the land is cheap enough, chances are that when those same people who built the house sold them to new house owners and those who moved in doesn't know there's a track around there.

(I understood that was the case with Pacific, but not sure about the PIR, as PIR is very visible even from I-5)

I haven't driven Seca yet, but I have heard many stories of friends getting flagged due to noise. It really is a shame that there are noise restrictions on almost every track in Norcal. (Seca, Sears point and Thunderhill all have Db limits)

The price we pay to live in CA

I'd really like to know if the silencers let this exhaust pass the sound check at Laguna Seca, meaning: Is there ANYONE who can provide first hand confirmation that they or their friend drove the day at a track event without a problem?

Got this info from the other parallel thread going on in the Vendor section:
http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1386103

I believe DocJohn has used that one. He was black flagged at Lime Rock which had an 89db limit and they had him in the downhill at either 93 or 94db.

those silencers do work! ...another option.I used them at the same track that flagged me.

I would read this as docjohn's Taitec exhaust loudness to be less than 89dB with the silencers in place (therefore being ok to run for Laguna Seca). I would PM him to be sure though.

Ah, thanks for the info.

However, the loudness as measured is entirely dependent on the distance to the meter, the proximity of reflective surfaces, and so on. I wouldn't want to use sound levels measured at a particular track to confirm that it would pass at a different track.

Similarly, that video of sound levels measured in the parking garage is fairly irrelevant to what one would see at Laguna Seca. Revving in a parking lot is a very different sound level compared to full throttle going up a hill.

Therefore, the most incontrovertible evidence would be someone actually driving his Taitec GTLW at Laguna Seca and coming home a satisfied customer. :) Maybe I will do that next time I go if I can find a support vehicle to haul my stock exhaust up there just in case.

I had the jgtc before and the lightweight is a little less droning, and I went to PIR which has 92 db, and it exceeding the level. (I believed mine is 97). Then we have this ghetto creation with the silencer. (as the silencer brings it down to 93-94, and we found a shop by the track that we get to point it away from the recording tower.)

with more time on hand you should be able to make it nicer... IMO, bring your oem cats with you so in case everything fails, you should still be able to fit the cats in and keep running.

Yes, more importantly is whether they measure the sound with a weighting. I can't find any information from Lagurna Seca about the noise limit, other than it's 92dB. But dB what? Is 92dB(A)? or 92dB(C)? The difference in measurement could be anywhere from 0 to 45 dB less depending on what frequency the exhaust emits at!!!
CA Vehicle code measures theirs with a dB(A) weighting making most deep, loud exhausts perfectly legal. . .(not so good for high pitched "F1 Sound" exhausts though)
