Best exhaust - lightweight/quiet

Thanks Chris! I forgot you had the RFY 4.1. For NA, piping diameter doesn't really matter. You actually want smaller piping to keep exhaust gas velocity up, but not too small to pinch flow. On the NSX, that's about 50mm. Most exhausts use this diameter. Only the Super Ti and RM Racing exhausts use 60mm and you can feel a slight loss in torque below 5,000 with them, but more power in VTEC.

The main culprit in power loss for exhausts is layout. The well-known "pretzel" exhausts give up 10-15 hp since the flow hits a brick wall having to go through all those passages. It's funny- the layout of the 4.1 is nearly identical to the GRF/Prospeed, but RFY uses a different cross-pipe layout.

Starting to feel bad Honcho - do we ever give you any sleep time? buut just a couple of follow ups please: While checking your Blackhawk reference(thank you) i see Toda's perhaps makes a Ti product - i assume it's not close to meeting your excellent 1-6 breakdown which i totally agree on. Do you happen to know a source for the RFY and GRF? Did Pro-Speed change to Top-Speed? Thanks so much for whittling this down to the no-drone finalists for different tastes - Sup Ti/RFY/GRF. Starting to get cold here in Ohio - my NSX has nightmares about galvanic corrosion when the "salt trucks" mobilize.
My GRF EX-001 ss currently for sale if you're interested. I think I might just run the ARC now.

Looks like things may have changed at Hirano tire as they referred me to TEIWA Japan (specifically [email protected]) Or perhaps it was how i filled out their order form - as i had to pick a fictitious pre-name to get their order form in. Hope they can help me and with a decent price. I'm excited and think that Sup Ti will hit my "numbers" and allow me to justify the upcoming holiday feasts! Had a very good buy experience with NENGUN recently on JUN flywheel and OE clutch. And thanks for the Blackhawk lead as their prices on all things TODA look very good. Would love to support SOS and local sources more, but on these Japan made products and wanting to do all my work, it is what it is. Will report on Teiwa response.

Got a super quick response from Takeru(Jimmie) Tsuboi of TEIWA Japan for a Super Ti for 419, 200 plus 39,500 yen, lead time one month plus. Don't you just love Japanese customer service? Taking me back to the US when i was a youngster. Haven't done the conversion myself (he-eh) but i think thats a very good price. The contact email is [email protected]. I asked them about test pipes, but not optomistic on that (i could get arrested in parts of the US for these). Not sure what all they will import for us, but they look like a do-all aftermarket supplier. Right now they are looking like Santa to me. Thanks Honcho

That's a really good price, considering it's Y650,000 full price. Be prepared for a bit of a wait- it takes a while for Fujitsubo to make it and with the customs and shipping stuff, it's more like a 2-3 month wait. :)

I would strongly recommend against test pipes. The amount of soot on the rear bumper will be like a steel foundry and you'll be constantly cleaning it. It will eventually stain the clear coat. Pick up a set of Pride HFC- I ran them with my Super Ti and there is no restriction. The car dynoed +32 whp with that combo. Plus, they clean up a lot of that soot.

You will love the Super Ti. Fujitsubo is one of the few exhaust manufacturers who can mandrel bend titanium. No ugly welded wedges that can crack on their exhausts. If I didn't already have the Prospeed/GRF style, I'd order another one. The below is worth a watch.

Prospeed use to make one that doesnt drone at all. Agressive enough sound at partial and full throttle but perfect for daily driving.

I have whatever SOS sold 6 years ago ...very street and neighborhood friendly

As noted above, I have that exhaust. :) Zero drone, but it's pretty loud!

The best exhaust is subjective. This depends on if your definition of "best" is considering price.
If best means manufacturing method, then ours would be definitely up there as we are the only ones who to our knowledge that did back purge welding for our exhausts as well as using 314L stainless steel. The mufflers we used are also different from the other exhausts in the market and don't have a raspy tone but rather a low growling tone that amplifies the V6 engine.

Got my Fujitsubo Super Ti order in $2773, ship $261, PP fee $91, got billed for total of just a bit more at $3210 delivered. I'll likely get a less than $100 additional import fee from the shipper. Santa won't be involved as they gave me a ship date mid-Feb which seems reasonable for a made-to-order Titanium product. TEIWA CORPORATION - [email protected]

Interesting - I have zero soot buildup with my test pipes + ARC.

Sound is perfect to me - it's been a while but I think my ARC without cats is quieter than my Gt-One 5.1 was with.

Santa found my wish list and arranged for someone to cancel a Super Ti order, so mines on the way right now! Maybe Santa will even arrange to get it dented in transit and I'll get a second one to put on my RDX(?) Attached pic of how we did headers in the late 60's. I would take the cut-offs plates off now and then - truly heart thumping. I laugh when i see the front end prop rods that were made from shower rods (they were light and cheap he-he). I was 18 years old and brazed those headers from JC Whitney elbows and tube (no titanium here - duh).

My Fujitsubo Super Ti arrived today. The box was absolutely trashed and both tube flanges had pushed thru the box. Tips are fine, but will have to accelerate my plans for install to make sure it fits. Superb fit/finish -weighs 20 lbs .4 oz. I intended to wait to install (as it's 24F out) and use my audio mike to do a "sweep" before and after just for kicks and report. But my Bengal boy says it will sound great! Happy holidays all!

So excited for you!

I agree that the best exhaust is subjective. I've had several exhausts and generally prefer exhausts with an X-pipe for the smoother sound and higher pitch that works well with the character of our high-revving motors, IMO.

I also agree that "best" exhaust is very subjective and varies greatly on what you value from an exhaust. My NSX has SOS HFCs and an SOS TVS supercharger and I was trying to balance high performance, low weight, quality, and sound. For sound I was asking for a lot (quiet, no drone, but still sounds great at WOT).

In an attempt to get a reasonable sounding, high flowing exhaust, I'd went with a pride V2 2.5", which unique given it's larger diameter piping. But it was too loud, and to my ears, had a bit of drone. I looked at the RFY GT V4 in Ti and was willing to pay for a custom version with larger diameter piping, but was told it wasn't possible due to the existing jig used to produce them. Ultimately, I went for the Fujitsubo Super Ti and it's *almost perfect* for me. It's not light in absolute terms, and I also don't think it's the best sounding exhaust (I much preferred an old "Angus AP-X" I had for pure tone), but it's a quality piece, is much quieter (which I prioritized for my local track and generally avoiding attention), and is probably the only aftermarket exhaust I've ever experienced that has no perceivable drone. I also haven't noticed any major dip in performance relative to my previous exhaust. If anything, smoothness and responsiveness feel slightly improved.

Just now got the time to install the Super Ti to make sure it wasn't damaged. Although both pipes were literally sticking out of the box, no damage seems to have occurred and it fits just fine (my headers both have flex joints which allow for a lot of variance. I ordered new test pipes from pride as my Comptech units have always had one flange clocked a few degrees off, so hopefully their units will fit perfectly as i don't want to put any load on these seemingly outstanding Fuitsubo design/engineering work (the hollow hangers are a work of art). This time going with flanged bolt/flanged nut 316 SST from McMaster Carr. Got excited for a minute on Titanium bolts but they are like $360 and would only save a calculated .6 lbs. Weights = assumed 44lbs OE, my HKS was 36.7 lbs (confused as my spreadsheet shows a 15lb saving - but must be wrong). The SupTi is exactly 20.1 lbs, so i'm going with 44 minus 20.1 for a total savings of 23'9 lbs. Will not report on the sound for some time as even though my city doesn't see much snow the roads are already coated with salt-argh!. Asked Pride to make me some Ti test pipes. They said they would consider a "run". I fully understand why not many folks would desire Ti test pipes - but if you do have interest please let them know. Could be about a 3.25 lb savings. I made a big deal about the Meg's cone tips i used on my HKS/w/come tips, but see the '''fujitsubo tips also have a cone shape in their tip which likely enhances what i have called the "trombone' efect,. So VERY optimistic about the sound. Some folks say they are too quite, but i will soon see for meself soom. Does anyond make Ti headers'? which would see the next likelely etep
