Stretched S2000 Mule in Torrance, CA

Yeah I read about that earlier today.....good stuff though....too bad no pics....

By the way Steve you have 777 post counts.....you are lucky.

I take it the original poster in S2KI meant that the car seen running around the Nurburgring was the one seen in Torrence, California...

If so, I sure hope this indicates testing for the upcoming NSX and/or S2000. If they were indeed benchmarking - BRING IT ON HONDA!

Benchmarking what... a Front Engined V10 to compete with Ferrari's 599, Bentley Continental GT, and Aston Martin's DB9 at BMW 6-series/Mercedes SL Price?

Or are they Benchmarking a Mid Enginge NSX to compete with a Ferrari 430, Gallardo/R8, Porsche 997 Turbo and upcoming Lotus Espirit at Base Porsche Carerra Price?

Those are the burning questions I want answers to... Forget the rest.

They're done testing at the ring and are now benchmarking it for So Cal traffic, because lord knows 500+ hp does wonders when crawling around on the freeway at 3mph.

Wow, that's definitely interesting. If I lived in Orange county, i would be camping outside Honda R&D all the time with a camera.

Yeah, geez...someone get some pictures!

Forget those cars--the new benchmark is going to be the GT-R. Since Honda still doesn't have a V-8 and I truly believe they are having trouble with the V-10 I just can't see how they're going to put out anything to compete with the GT-R front-engne wise and Honda has made no suggestion they are working on a MR layout of any kind.

A MR layout would require performance on par with the F430 and you can bet the new F4xx will be out soon with performance on par with the Scuderia. I don't see that happening.

I don't know what Honda is thinking. That S2000 mule has been running around for nearly a year now. The ASCC as well as the V-10 is nowhere in sight. The original NSX replacement timeframe was 2008, remember? HA HA. Honda has no desire to compete in the exotic performance market anymore. We are going to have to deal with that.

The GT-R is at least what the ASCC should have been. If Honda was going to give us anything the ASCC would have been it. I cannot fathom Honda putting out that turd in the wake of the debut of the GT-R. Props to Nissan for developing a front-engine car that can compete on the world stage for under $80K. They proved it could be done and I personally think Nissan has put a package together that will sell very well. They absolutely shamed Honda and their stillborn ASCC. :frown:

I think the R35 GT-R will be a stunning car. And the Spec V that is already rumorred to be 300# lighter (from 3800 to 3500#) and 530hp (from 480hp) will be worth every penny of it (expected under $100k)

The GT-R is a proper sports car even though its engine is in the front. If Honda actually made a SH-AWD Rear Wheel Bias Car with that power at that price point with that handling... it might have some right to carry the NSX name.

My SCed M3 will be replaced by the GT-R. As well as any Porsche 996 Turbo, Evo MR, E55, S4 BiTurbo, or any other FI Car I was thinking of buying!

I wish Honda would make something inspiring again to revive the interest in them and to put some reality behind that 'Power Of Dreams' slogan they have. My NSXs and S2000 are the last things that have excited me from Honda, and they are all several years old. :frown:

me too .....

The dream for a mid-engine NSX successor is dead. Fukui killed it. Shigeru Uehara confirmed Honda is taking a different direction all together and He was being polite with his words.

Now that we are seeing this stretch S2000 body car in Califorina, it further confirms that Honda is going to market with this fat pig, for which only 2 people on this forum will buy.

Much like the 3 decades that passed between the S800 to S2000, we may have to wait that long for the true NSX successor.

I just hope that Honda doesn't rush this project. I am glad to hear that they are going back to the drawing boards. How far back to the drawing board are they going?

Hey guys

vtec.net is saying their are rumors of a mid engine resurfacing:confused: Where would they have gotten that? LOL Of course they also Honda isn't sure what direction the NSX is going in:biggrin:

I seriously doubt that Honda would go back to the MR platform.

Shigeru Uehara would not have said what he said and nor would he have resigned were the MR platform a possibility. Also, the S2000 mule with a bulging and very long hood has been running around long enough now and a redirection to a MR platform would mean at least a 2012 model and not the 2009-2010 that Honda have lately suggested.

well when Uehara made that statement, the ASCC was the concept Honda was leading towards. Now I don't think anyone knows except those actually working the project. I don't we will see the NSX replacement in 2009, maybe mid 2010, but I really don't know and neither does anyonne else other than those(like I said before) working on the project.

Long time ago, I read and translated an article from a Japanese magazine which had an interview with Uehera. He wanted the next generation in a certain way but seems like Honda wanted a different direction. I wonder if that had any thing to do with his retirement. his current age is not exactly at a retirement point.

Maybe he will do some thing like Gordon Murray did in the past, go to another company and specialize in some thing.
