I need your suggestions in storing my stock calipers for future re-installation if needed. Here are my questions:
- With fluid inside or without?
- Pistons extended or retracted?
- If extended, how far?
- What to use to clean the piston boots?
- Remove the brake line or leave it attached?

Thanks

zoomnsx,

I would recommend you store them in a sealed zip-lock bag. Vacuum sealed would be better.

I would make sure there is a good coating of brake fluid inside, so they will not get any rust inside them.

You should clean the caliper with Brake Cleaner and let is air dry, or blow it off with compressed air.

You can remove th brake line, but cap the threaded hole. When you buy a new caliper, I recall getting these little plugs from the factory to keep them sealed. You may find these at an autoparts store, or ask the dealer if they may have some lying around from recent caliper replacements. Probably, most Acura's have the same size threaded hole. Also you can get a short bolt of the same size thread and seal it with the original crush washers. (this may be overkill)

I am thinking piston retracted, but I would like to see others comment on this. If you can vacuum seal them in a bag, I actually do not think it matters.

HTH,
LarryB
