That is what you know after seeing the video. I bet that is not what the clerk knew when he was getting robbed. What if he had yelled, "hey stop" and the robber pulled out a gun and shot the clerk dead? Always better to go into a situation with the upper hand when a gun is involved. He might not even have known they were females at the time?

Detain by what means? "Hey, stand here while I call the cops?" or Lock the door while searching for a key to put in the door? Since property is worth nothing compared to life.... while you're calling the cops let them grab s*** and throw them through the freaking window. No big deal the first object thrown through doesn't make a big enough hole so they decide to grab something bigger or multiple objects, "stop throwing things through the window to aide your escape. That's going to add more charges during the commission of this crime." Grab two assailants physically as they are now locked inside the store with you while waiting for the cops to arrive. I know what, serve them coffee and donuts while you're waiting, you run a convenience store anyway!!!!I have to say your alternative is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT..... they feel guilty and embarassed that they got caught stealing so they're going to be like the guys on DATELINE: To Catch a Child Predator where the criminals break down, beg, and sob as they are caught on camera. I think that's we have to assume they were going to do....... surrender.

Different situation. Someone stealing any of those things has a completely different motivation than two teen girls trying to get drunk. I can't even begin to fathom why people are going so far out of their way to defend a creep who pointed a loaded and cocked handgun at two girls trying to steal beer.

I stand by the yelling thing. These are TEENAGE GIRLS. They're not stealing drug money, they're trying to have beer before they're old enough to have beer. They have no reason to fight for that beer. Period.

I worked in retail when I was 17 years old and I caught plenty of kids trying to steal little stuff. When kids know they've been spotted they stop what they're doing and run. Every time. If yelling worked for me when I was a 130lb 17 year old it certainly would've worked for this tough guy.

Of course if it WAS a life-threatening situation my money says this heroic clerk would've stood there with his gun in his pants and offered up whatever the bad guys requested.

I'm still looking for someone to let us know how you would "detain" would be robbers? I mean this sincerely. I'm not a pussy but I'm not stupid either. I'm not going to try and restrain two people by myself. If they're old and bold enough to steal they're probably old enough to assault me. Should I take the chance that they will cooperate? In any case there's a high probabilty that detaining is going to involve physical contact. I'm not willing to get hurt over that. I'm not willing to fight two adult females, late at night by myself. Do you think both the driver and her passenger both came into the store to steal beer? How many more were in the getaway car? Terrific, a least one more person in the getaway car. After a minute or two the getaway driver is going think what the f*** is taking so long. Now I gotta deal with three or more assailants. What if that person were a male? geez.... I'll tell him to stop. ANYTHING could happen. All it takes is for one of them to throw the beer and perhaps get hit in the face/head and get cut by breaking glass. Then what? Four twelve packs..... or 18-packs. Guess they planned on getting drunk that night and save some for the following night if only two were drinking..... I know,I know, they can down all that beer as a tandem.

I don't know what your personal experiences with violent crime are. I speak as a multiple victim with over 25 years in that line of work and the bold and brazen behavior has increased, not decreased. It's foolish to wait until the situation controls you instead of controlling the situation first. ODDS: accidental discharge vs the chances of a confrontation vs surrender.

Let start a poll and vote. How many say the gun discharges? How many say there's gonna be trouble while detaining them? How many say the two are going to surrender?

I'd like to add that i'm finishing up a Reserve Academy, so I still would have to go through another module to work as a full time officer. What I wrote is just my opinion. I'm not hired with any department yet, but once I am, I do have to follow department policy and most importantly the law. I know I still have so much to learn. So dont worry, i'm not gonna be some kind of cowboy, shooting up kids. :smile:

No, you were right the first time. They didn't get violent until after he tried to stop them. He got beaten down over two cases of beer. And what was the benefit? The beer is still gone, but since they felt threatened he's now lying on the ground bleeding. At some point you need to cut your losses.
