Stern wheels?

Stern used to be a JDM company until Golden Apple bought the name. Golden Apple is the same company that makes ADR and RSL wheels. Their wheels are made in Taiwan and are typically replicas of other manufactures. They are not poor quality but also not great quality; you can compare them to rota and other generic wheel companies.

I'm considering Work wheels and other kinds of forged wheels, but geez are these things expensive! I mean 3-4k for wheels? wow...

Anywho, I'm in the market for either a 5 spoke or mesh style setup. I need to find the right set for me and theses Stern's caught my eye: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/19-S...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

That seems very cheap for a set of wheels... are they heavy or made like crap?

They're not necessarily crap but yes they are heavy. If you don't care about performance, there shouldn't be anything wrong with them as long as they have the right sizes and offset.

Well, I do care about performance. I enjoy the 274HP the car showed on the Dyno and I'd like to not lose anything... in fact, if I can gain anything that'd be great. What would you suggest?

Hi Dan,
I personally just came from Oakland (90 miles drive) to buy a set of Sterns for my NSX and RL. The price seemed to good to be true so I had to see them in person. I wanted the ST2s for both cars. Stern makes some awsome replicas of some classic designs that Work and Iforged make. I walked away not buying anything.
!st, Stern wheels are X8.5 only. Which is wide for the fronts of our NSX even with a 215/25. 2nd, they weigh t h i r t y s e v e n lbs. I didnt even get a set for the RL. The design is so bulky and heavy that the 20s may not have cleared my calipers.

I originally wanted Work Wheels too. It looks like it cost to do it right. Work or Iforged seems to be the only way to go in my book. HRE, you can keep your overpriced wheels

ouch. Well, that makes that decision an easy one. 37 is a good age for a person, not a good weight for wheels. ;)

Take a look at the Volk wheels, strong and light, not cheap but not as much as HRE.

yeah, the only light weight volk wheels are the racing style wheels. but damn are they light!! my set of le28's weights only 14 lbs in the front for the 17x7.5 and 18 lbs for 18x9.5. that is lighter than the factory 16/17 combo.

LOL, thats funny those are the wheels that came on my car, and I hate it them so bad that I've chosse to have my car on jack stands untill a find something else than keep driving with them on..
Thay heave as hell, here:

Honestly, the wheels on your car pictured aren't bad looking at all in my opinion. The only problem I see is they're chrome which is not good for light weight.

What kind are they?

Unfortunately I'm not liking any of the Volk styles. :(

If you like mesh, look at the Volk SF Winning, I have them on my car and they are the only Volk wheels I liked. Take a look at the BBS wheels like the RGR. VERY light, something like 22 lbs for a 19x10 wheel. I originally ordered these from Tirerack but I have a big brake kit and they were not sure of the offset for appropriate fitment.

Wow, cool... but can you make it a little smaller?

Now that is just sad, our cars look too much alike. Mine is Monte Carlo Blue.

I will give my .02Cents here.

I am not a brand whore. I have had probably 7 sets of Stern wheels on my cars over the past years. Actually when i bought my current silver car the chrome sterns that are on the blue car above were on it. I am not a fan of chrome and wanted a more agressive offset so I sprung for new wheels. Even then I got these "rays ro_ja" wheels instead of the twin "rays volk" wheel because the damn things were 800 more for a volk sticker...

I have never had an issue with Stern wheels. They are cheap, easy, and you dont care if you curb one. I have never had one bend or pit.

If your not a brand whore grab a set and then keep the stock wheels to switch on if you decide to go racing.

i am not a brand whore either but am a weight whore- have been looking for wheels for over a year now and it is becoming obvious that RPF1s are hard to beat, unless you buy 02+ oem.

I have a set of Enkei RPF-01s that I use for my track wheels.

They aren't bad looking, are cheap ($1000 for a set from Tirerack) and are very light -

Fronts 17x8 15.6 lbs
Rears 17x9.5 16.5 lbs / 18x9.5 18.6 lbs
