SRS/Airbag disable and steering wheel options

What's the stock wheel? 370mm? Anyone know? I think 340 should be perfect. Ken have you noticed a difference in actual driving feel? I mean the feedback from the car through the wheel? Was your wheel lighter at all?

I have only put maybe 15 miles on it. Currently in winter storage but it felt good. They offer a 365mm that should be about the same as a stock NSX. I did not weigh them but should be about the same. Ken

Hey almost forgot I ordered mine with NO logo. If you do not say no Logo it will have the model name on it. I guess some people may want that but I did not.
I also did a quick search on Raid airbag wheels and it looks like all make of cars use them. I did attach one link I found but there are many more.
Good luck Ken

So this is what I'm looking at. Here is the steering wheel off with out the airbag. A nice canvas to re-cover.

And here is the airbag and a close up of the connection that was clipped tight. Maybe I need to reach out to my old buddy Shawn to see if this connector can be reattached. Or if it is polarized and I need a new airbag?

I'll be checking out an upholstery shop tomorrow that has re-wrapped an NSX steering wheel and see what they can do for me.

But that still leaves the bypassed circuit in the car....... Any thoughts on this?

What wires attached to the connector with the clipped wires anyway?

I can't believe someone would use electrical tape on this.

Where the clipped wires are, used to be longer wires with another yellow connector that clipped to the yellow connector that comes through the steering wheel and is the airbag/SRS.

As to the electrical tape, that is on the cruise control and I'll solder and heat shrink some insulation over them when I get the wheel redone. That is the least of my issues.

If the two wires are IDENTICAL, not striped and no difference in gauge and no ribs, they are probably NOT ploarized (and I think Ken said the same). So your airbag was basically disconnected by someone?

Yeah, not only disconnected under the dash with a bypass but also the wires were disconnected (snipped) at the bag. So I need to fix two (2) separate wiring issues.

Is this a NSX air bag? I only had one plug on the bag of my 2001. It was a single stage the above is a dual stage.

It is not an NSX wheel. The second plug is for the horn which is where the airbag is, not the little buttons to the side of the spokes.

The snipped wires look to be identical in color and gauge so I'm thinking they are not polarized. I'll take them to the dealer tomorrow (Jon Martin) and get his take on this skulduggery. Maybe something under the dash is unplugged or the light is burned out or something easy. Wait a second, who am I kidding? Nothing on this car has been easy!

Saw Jon Martin today and we discussed the issues. His impression is that the SRS has NOT been bypassed and the circuit is live and active. That is a relief. But I will have him troubleshoot and follow the circuit right up to triggering the bag once I get everything sorted out.

And I have found a shop that does OEM quality work on re-wrapping your existing wheel. I'll keep this thread going with my process, with pictures, once I get everything sorted out. Thanks.

Hi, is this shop local? Can I have the contact info? I am looking for shop that can do quality work to rewrap my aftermarket steering wheel. Thanks.

No not yet. I'm having a replacement wheel being sent to me first and that should arrive by weeks end. I'll turn aroound and send it to Dallas to get the wheel re-wrapped. I'll take pictures when I get it back. I think I'm going to have them double wrap it and then do black leather over it. My wife has a new X3 with the M Package and that steering wheel feels real good. So that is what I'm shooting for. It's about 12cm in circumference and really is a nice fat wheel. I'll keep you posted.

So I got notice from the shop in Dallas that they have received my wheel. Will talk to them tomorrow and I expect it back in the mail on Saturday. Will take picks when it's finished.

Got an email this morning that the wheel will be finished today. They will send me pictures before they wrap it up and ship it. I'll post them when I get them. Can't wait.

Can't remember off the top of my head but i think around $360 and that is inclusive of the shipping back to me. I love it, feels real good in my hands.
