So the NSX is appreciatet then.....well, at least in the UK.

Good find!

Hi,
This is quite old news, and probably not something that is going to happen today. He went to court, and if he lost, could of faced jail time. We will automatically lose a license if caught over 100mph. I was caught doing 94mph on the way to Spa last year. The road was empty, bright sunlight etc etc. The policeman gave me the option of paying the fine or going to court, with the possibility of being prosecuted. The UK Gov is coming down hard on speeding. WWW.pistonheads.com is a good UK car web site if you to know more about driving over here.

Hi j14nsx,
Seems to be the order of the day to come down hard on people who are driving fast. It's the same in the Netherlands where there are radar-controlled camera's everywhere. Most seems to have little to to with traffic safety and more with a way of generating government income.
There are times when going faster than a certain speed limit is certainly dangerous (bad weather, build-up areas, two-directional traffic, mixed traffic environments (pedestrians, cars, bicycles) but at other times going 100mph or faster can be very safe. After all, that's what highways were designed for. It's a pity that in most cases speeding is considered a black & white affair and circumstances are often not even taken into consideration.

Isn't the NSX's top speed more in line with 270~280kmph instead of the 180kmph they stated?

Edit: Spelling...

The article states 180mph and not 180kmph.

Lets just hope this doesn't affect those Getaway In Stockholm boys -- somehow I don't think it will.

If it was, you could drive from New York City to Los Angeles in about 36 seconds...

Speed isn't dangerous, it's the sudden deceleration that's often the problem.

You'll have to search on Google, but accident rates and fatalities went up dramatically in Montana, where they went from no day-time speed limits and evening limits to limits all the time.

Also, Italy is trying to or has raised its limits.

The cornerstone of the article re: Montana is that highway engineers know more about safety then lawmakers and have for decades, especially since laws put into effect and enforced had a negative impact. Proof enough.

In densely populated cities, its just not a good idea, period. Interstates are a different subject.

Yup.

Montana has always enforced its speed laws. While it did not have an explicit limit stated, the speed limit was what is considered "reasonable and prudent", and they would pull you over for doing triple-digit speeds just as quickly as in any other state.

As noted above, the accident and fatality rate went down when the limit was "reasonable and prudent", and up when explicit speed limits were re-imposed. Click here and here for more info.

I have a dream that one day....
Americans will be forced to drive manual transmissions during their drivers test, passing on the right will be a felony, driving the speed limit in the left lane entitles one to a hefty citation and the US gets a manual trans AWD 540i.

Nice.

They are still trying to bring it up 150 km/h (94 mph). The logic behind it being that people who drive fast concentrate more on what they are doing, and therefor make less mistakes.
Italians, don't you just love 'm?!

Is kmph different from km/h???

It was different in Lud's joke, which I didn't understand the first time I read it. He was using 280kmph to refer to 280,000 miles per hour instead of 280 kilometers per hour.
