Hi guys,
As i was driving home from work today my speedometer just stop working:frown: and the EPS light lit up, and the green light around the "D" was flashing. As I remember the EPS light went off a few times before but back to normal the next day or after I reset the car computer by disconnecting the battery neg terminal. After doing some research it seems like I have a bad speed sensor? But the strange thing is it didn't just "flat line" completely... it stays flat most of the time but then it jumps back up for a little while and died again:frown:
Do you guys think it the speed sensor or something else more serious? Also does any of you have any recommendation on where to buy the new sensor for a good price? And is it easy to do it myself? Any detailed instruction or maybe diagram and photos would be great. Thanks a bunch!
Eric

Your description is exactly what my car was doing before I replaced the "NM Speed Sensor". If you look back through my old threads, I discussed this topic several years ago. I had the NM speed sensor replaced then and I haven't had any trouble like this since. I would recommend getting a Honda Speed Sensor from Ray Lak's Acura (1-888-RAY-LAKS, ask for Tim) if you can wait for it to be shipped. Reportedly Ray Lak's has the best parts prices around plus free shipping. Aftermarket is available if you are in a crunch, but I would recommend the Honda part.

It is a little tough to get at, but not that difficult to install. It is on top of the transfer case up underneath the throttle body.

Thanks Jett. I will call Acura dealer and order the sensor and try to do it myself. Last time they want to charge me a $100 for diagnostic.. and guess what..they want to charge me $40 to replace a burn out tail light:mad:. I said "thank you, I'll do it myself"

I had the same problem, and just changed the speed sensor, now all good

OP: see if your cruise control works when your speedometer doesn't. If your cruise works then it is not your speed sensor since the cruise uses it to tell speed.

Just ordered the speed sensor from Tim for $129 with 25% discount and free shipping! Thanks Jett for the referral:biggrin:
Oh..I tried the cruise control and nope..cruise control does not work so it's got to be the speed sensor. Also if anyone can give me some hint on where exactly is the speed sensor? I know the general area as it's under the throttle body to the right but have no idea what it looks like:rolleyes:

d'oh!! i'm getting a speedo dancing needle indicator!!
but no light up 'D'....

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Exact problem described as above, D light Flashing, EPS light on and speedometer going wacky (up/down). And at times TCS light & engine light.

I tried re-seeding the clock fuse, which temporarily relieved the issue, but came back.

I read this posting, thx!! I would have gone to dealer & wasted time & spent thousands!

I called up my independent NSX mechanic:
Part: Speed Sensor: $105.00
Labor: $200
Total: $305.00

The speedometer was fixed, I had the EPS light staying on. However, after re-seeding the clock fuse, it went off.

Thanks!!! You guys Rock!!!!

For future reference, the engine speed sensor can be bought on eBay for less than $10 and is a quality part. They fit all model years.
