Speaking of engine fires...

Hey Tony, You're gonna have to sneak through security into the Tochigi Proving Grounds on prototype test day for this one! Unlike Ferrari's recent blooper with their F60 prototype, Honda really knows what they're doing when it comes to reliability and safety. Good luck trying to get pics of the 2005 NSX going up in flames!

How about the F60 prototype, the one that was rumored to have caught on fire and was burnt to the ground at Ferrari's Fiorino Track?

That picture was taken in San Diego on the 805 freeway headed northbound. It was taken by Andy Warren in his Green/Tan NSX.

So what happened? Was the driver OK? What caused the engine fire? Any more details? Just curious....

Heheheh, thanks for the link to Andy's site.
The Brent story cracked me up so much.

why exactly do nsx have engine fires? what's the problem? I think Mark B. would be a great candidate to answer that question.

Some have started on fire because the battery shorted out on the tie-down. I was almost a victim of this.

i c. nice to hear u are ok. so most of the time is the battery? I thought the battery was located in the front. hmm.

The battery in the front shorts on the tie-down and then the current overheats the blower-motor. Most fires are probably gas related and occur in the back with the engine.
I was very happy my brother-in-law noticed the blue spark. I think we fixed it.

The potential loss of a car from an accident should not discourage you from buying one.
There were only around two battery related fires and very few other total loss fires.
Other cars have had more problems than the NSX.

Tony,
I intend to buy a nsx that had an engine fire because the owner had a SC in there. however he said that a new engine was put in and car was repainted. he said it was a minor fire. the car now has a salvage title. he wants $25k for it and has 40k miles. what do you think?

I have no knowledge of the damage that a fire does to aluminium. I've read that if the fire is put out with anything other than Halon you should fix the car and sell it immediately. I would call a professional for advice.

yep I read that too. I don't know yet...but I'll defintely go check the car out after my exams and will ask them what they used to extingish the fires. will keep you posted. thanks tony!
