to all south bay NSXers that do not get their hands dirty.....like me.

where do you go and how much do you pay??

i have collected the following

Foreign Affair: $108 for mobil 1 syn
Los Gatos Acura: $98 for mobil 1 syn
Hilltop Auto: $79 for mobil 1 syn

any others around here? hilltop is a bit far for an oil change...i'll go there for a major service.

thanks.....

If you bring your own oil, Los Gatos Acura will do the change for a much reduced amount, so you can get an oil change there with the same oil for a lesser overall amount.

You've got to be kidding! $108 for an oil change? A case of Mobil 1 synthetic (six quarts) is $23 at Costco + $13 for the oil filter. So, the labor charge is $72? Changing the oil on an NSX isn't any more difficult than a Ford Escort. Dude, bring your oil and filter, come down to Monterey for the day and I'll change it for free. :D

Guys - its only a freakin' oil change!!!!!!
I get mine done at local SpeeDee with Mobil 1. I take my own Honda filter but don't really save that much on the oil by pre-buying.

I go to Los Gatos Acura, but I bring my own oil (they don't usually stock Mobil 1).

I would never trust one of those 10 minute places with my NSX, but I do take my CRX to them.

And I certainly don't want to do it myself. Too messy... Also, disposing of the old oil is a pain. It's worth the money to have the "professionals" do it.

first of all, dealers and others charge extras for the oil in addition to labor.

vytas, i bet they charge at least $60-70 for the parts if you can get them for $46 outside....labor is charged for about 1/2 hour
plus disposal fees.

i've had the X for a little over a year and had two oil changes....both complimentary with the $1000 extra Acura certification.....haa...what a deal!!

yes, it's my third oil change now so i'm on my own.

thanks for the offer, vytas....i'll buy you a juicy steak dinner every time you change oil for me.

i don't like to get my hands dirty nor do i know how to change oil.....never thought of learning to do it.

its not that bad

I used to avoid doing my own changes too, but after I gave it a try I discovered its not too bad:

Here's what I do:

1) Use Griot's oil extractor to siphon out the oil from the top and avoiding messing with the drain plug.

Here's a link:

http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10122

2) After the oil has been extracted, I reach for the filter behind the right, rear wheel. Most folks should be able to reach the filter without lifting the car. Just unscrew the filter and let the last few drops of oil drip out.

3) Wipe the suspension down and screw on new filter.

4) Add 5.3 quarts of oil. Voila!

I can do an oil change in under 1/2 an hour. If you live in the South Bay, you can drain the oil back into the same empty oil containers that belonged to the oil you dumped into the car and take it to the SMART station for free disposal! Link below:

Now all my oil changes are under $40 bucks, even with synthetic. If you put alot of miles on your car (like I do), doing your own oil changes is worth it.

for those that care, please read on....

so i've finally made a few calls and settled on an oil change at stevens creek acura. the service advisor, Ronnie, was very helpful...the total came out to about $70...not bad for mobil 1 synthetic. my X was dirty as heck so the complimentary car wash was greatly appreciated.

my next oil change will definitely be at vytas's auto service..:D

Here's what I did :

1) Bought my own oil (Use either Mobil 1 Syn or Redline 10-30)

2) Ordered my own Honda factory oil filter and crush washers from www.ahmotor.com These guys carry all the basic factory items. Oil filters are $12.99 Crush washers are .30 cents each. I bought a dozen of each.

3) Bring it to my local oil change shop and WATCH them perform the oil change from start to finish! Don't let these guys perform an oil change without you being physically there to watch it.

They charged me $15 for labor. The process took less than 30 minutes. Keep in mind, oil changes on the NSX isn't that hard to perform (after all, it's just a Honda/Acura)

It's the way they perform the oil change that makes me worry.
Remember to buy crush washers along with the oil filters and have them both replaced. Just some suggestions. Take care.

Just a suggestion to my fellow NSX owners, don't take the complimentary car wash, it's not worth the headache!

The process will likely scratch your car. Better to hand wash it yourself or bring it to a car detail shop that utilize hand wash instead of the drive through machine wash.

I recommend Tower car wash in San Francisco. These people do a good job. My car's finish is clean and smooth. I usually pay about $120 for the wash and detail (Interior and exterior). Takes about 4 hours minimum.

i brought mine to stevens creek acura, home of the master tech that vytas had met at laguna last sunday. he's got an NSX of his own pampers it like you wouldn't believe.....

i was surprise the oil change and car wash took about an hour to do. i dropped it off at lunch and was planning to enjoy my sizzling hot plate chicken teriyaki when my service advisor called for me to pick up my X.....what a service!

i agree about the wash...i normally wash my own but i had a wedding to attend the following day and didn't have time to wash it....they did a decent job with the wash.
