That would be great if you would agree to do a detailing demo for us live. Maybe we can arrange a detailing meet day with a group of us in the B.A. when the weather gets better.
Let us know what you think and we'll post up a meeting date for all interested.
I definitely would like to do this. Here is my plan when I start holding seminars:
There's 3 different TYPES of seminars I'd like to hold: An "Intro" to detailing, An "Intermediate" Detailing, and an "Advanced" detailing class.
Here's how it'd go, a certain fee is paid (won't be too expensive, I promise) with a maximum of 5 people per class. It'll be a mostly all-day class. Most demos will be done on my personal car (2008 S2000), while a brave someone can ask to have their car be a demo. There will be snacks and refreshments provided and will run probably from 9am-2-3pm with 1-on-1 afterwards for any other questions that need to be cleared up.
Intro would involve how to properly wash you car, and also how to properly dry you car. How to clean the tires, wheels, wheel wells. And of course, I know EVERYONE wants to know about detailing their engine bay. I get questions like this AT LEAST once every other day. Also I will go over how to choose the right products, what makes sense, what doesn't? How to clay a car, it's benefits. Then I'll go over how to wax a car: which one is the best? Iono! Which is the worst? Beats me! And go over how to apply, how many coats. Do you want a sealant(synthetic) or a carnuba? Then I'll teach everyone a little about the interior (not much to be said.. but a little bit!), and also what's good for glass.. what isn't.
Intermediate will involve DA use. Right now I only have one DA with me, but I will be looking in to purchasing another DA. This will be a 5 person max class as well, with the same thing as stated above.. refreshments, snacks, etc. This class will go over the basic use of a DA, and it's advantages. It will also cover a LITTLE bit in to which polishes/pads are the best, as well as what the differences are. We will practice on a scrap panel, or if someone wants to volunteer their hood (
) that can be arranged! (of course, during the 1-on-1 hours, we'd finish the car up!). Also, I'll delve in to proper techniques. Can you polish with one hand? I don't see why not!
Advanced class will involve Rotary use. This class is not recommended to be taken unless you have first taken then DA class, or can show you are proficient with the DA. This class is for those of you looking to make this a serious hobby. You can do A LOT of correction with a DA, but you can do THAT much more with a rotary, at the expense of higher risk to the paint and user. I already have two rotary machines, so that won't be a problem. I will go in to deeper what types of polishes are good, what types of pads to use, as well as wool pads and compounds. I will touch lightly on wet sanding, and rock chip repair, as well as airbrushing scuffs (if the class finds it useful). I will go in to paint depths, what's safe, what isn't, and then finish with burning paint. No kidding, I won't do that!
How does that sound guys? It's something I've been talking with Will about, as well as thinking about how to approach it. It will be held at my house; it's a quiet neighborhood, with plenty of garage/driveway space and lots of street parking (right outside my house.. so you can keep an eye on your car
).
Chime in with thoughts/criticisms/ideas!
