Software for keeping records

I have a few pounds of service records, etc from the 2 previous owners of my 91.
I would like to enter it in one place using Excel or other software.
I hv the physical records, but would like to see it all in one place and keep it up to date with services, issues, fixes, mods, etc.
I have a rough idea of the layout for a spreadsheet, but thought that I am probably not the first to think of this.
Any advice is appreciated.

I use a program called Vehicle Pro. It's old, but works. It's pre-W2K, so some of the date fields don't work as expected but you can just override them with the two digit year number. If you wanna check it out, I've uploaded it to my site here (217k). No install necessary, just unzip to a directory and click on VEHPRO.EXE.

I havwe a great way of saving my records. Buy a 1, 2 or 3 inch
3-ring binder from staples, office depot etc. Buy a pack of clear sheet holders that fit in the binder (the thinnest, cheapest kind is more than sufficient.) Put them in the binder in chronological order. It looks awesome, professional and gives the car a nice visible timeline!

I forgot to mention, but one great thing about using the software is that you can configure maintenance reminders for services based on both mileage and time. It also automatically generates graphs showing historical gas mileage, cost of ownership, etc. When I sold my Accord, I burned the program and data onto CD and gave it to the new owner.

Phoen$x,

I downloaded Vehicle Pro ( I need something like this to keep track of my four cars), but was unable to open it using VEHPRO.EXE. It stated that a file, apparently the one right above EXE, on the list was missing. Any suggestions?

BTW, I found a current maintenace program for sale on the net, Automotive Wolf, for $29.95, from www.lonewolf-software.com., 877-REGSOFT.

Hi Edmondlll, what operation system are you running? Would you mind posting the exact error message? I can't say what the problem might be without further info, but I've used this program on Win 95/98/2000/XP.

Thanks for the tip on the other software, it looks pretty cool.

Thanks for the help Phoen$x, re your reply:

I am running Windows 98, found no need to upgrade as of yet.
I downloaded Vehicle Pro again to see if the problem would reappear; it did.

When I open the compressed file, I get a choice of the following 4 files (along with date/time modified, size, ratio, and packed):
Bwcc.dll
Vehicle.db
Vehpro.exe
Vehpro.hlp

When I access Vehpro.exe, I get "File Error" "Cannot find Bwcc.dll"

Get also: "Cannot find file C:\TEMP\VEHPRO.EXE (or one of its components). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct"

Have a great Thanksgiving.

All that is necessary is to extract all of the files to the same directory. No registration, no installation, no nuthin".
You should end up with:
bwcc.dll
vehicle.db
vehpro.exe
vehpro.hlp
all in the same folder.

Hi Edmond, I think I see your problem. It sounds like (from your post) that you are trying to execute the program directly from the ZIP archive. As lemansnsx stated, you need to extract all of the files into the same directory, then run the vehpro.exe program. Let us know if that solves your problem.

Thanks, I did. :) Hope yours was nice too.

Another option would be to use a simple-to-use database program such as FileMaker.

Just like Excel, there are tons of templates out there on the net.

I have been using the Acura Owners Link RyRy210 suggested, it works great. Doesn't have alot of bells/whisles keeps tract of both cars and is easy. Did help me locate some recall for my Legend my dealer missed :) , and it's free.
