And the NSX is super cheap (cheapest of all the cars actually)

Hell, my '02 RL is damn near 4 times the property tax cost and even my Grand Cherokee is over double.

Anyone else notice this in their state? I was concerned because Kansas and more specifically Johnson County, property taxes are outrageous.

And on a related note, insurance for my NSX is really cheap compared to my other cars as well. Must be a nice loophole with this car only having a 6cyl and being somewhat unknown.

You guys get taxed every year on your car?

Cars, houses, anything related to personal property :frown:

Same way in MO... it's not that way in IL? This is personal property tax, not sales tax.

So I take it you lease both your cars?
How do you get the bill?
Does it come directly to you, or does Honda bill you on behalf of the taxing jursidiction?

No, purchased.

They must be valuing the NSX at like $5-10,000

MA has a yearly excise tax, I think it's called. Basically they bill you for use of roads. It's BS if you ask me. Just another reason to tax you. My first year here I decided I wasn't gonna pay it. They didn't like that. I think they value my NSX at about $6000... so on top of taxing me they insult my NSX!... but at least i pay less so i can't complain to much.

ahahah I'm the same way.... somewhat insulted but damn happy it's cheap since I pay enough to begin with.

In Michigan they base your taxes on the original base price of the car so my Testarossa is more than my NSX even though it is worth less.

damn, i knew MO was a personal property tax state, but i didn't know it was applied to retail purchase vehicles every year too.
how is your car appraised then?
do they call you up and ask how many miles on the clock or just guess-timate?

Not sure, I should ask though, because they are killing me on the RL for some reason.

It's not blue book that's for sure. It might just go by year of vehicle or something crazy because the NSX is taxed so low, it doesn't make sense. I've never really paid attention to it until now.

I ask because I worked for the finance arm of a car mfgr. at one time.

For leased vehicles in certain states (MO included), the company would get the tax bills since they were the rightful owner of the car - not the person leasing it.
The company issues checks to the taxing jurisdictions paying off all the taxes, on all the cars garaged in that state/county, and then bills the customers.

The amount due was based on the (taxable) value of the car which was reported to the counties when the car company filed renditions. I remember seeing some people in the dept consulting kelly and nada books.

Anyhow, I just think it's ridiculous you have to do this every year.
Especially on a retail purchase you own.

whats odd in MA is that they value the NSX just fine when you first register it and have to pay taxes. however the yearly tax is way undervalued. which is fine with me. my 90 300zxtt used to be more than my 91 nsx. i think my tax this year was just over $100.

Nope. In Illinois, we just pay $78 a year to register our car, and some municipalities charge an amount smaller than that for a city registration. No personal property tax on cars. We still pay property taxes on real estate, though. And a state income tax of 3 percent (with no municipal income tax).

Another reason for me to move back to Chicago (I grew up there)
