I think it looks funny cuz these cars are not wide enough..

The JGTC cars are a lot wider making it look less like a conehead.

^ Route KS have a smaller version, with the silver ring inside much like the actual GT-500 cars.

I get the point of the snorkel and I completely understand the purpose and gains... but do they have to make it so big and so gaudy....



I mean why can't it just be a sleek design like the GruppeM intake for the RSX...
 
I've often mused about a scoop similar to the McLaren F1. Very small and VERY nice looking IMO. I assume Gordan's testing showed that this small scoop directly in the laminar flow path still afforded good flow. But that doesn't mean it would work on the X. Race cars generally stick it way above this layer, hence the ugliness. I think the NSX top skin is welded on, anyone verify? Ram air only starts to work at around 100mph.
 
I often thought the snorkel on the NSX is following the design for Formula 1 car. What would be the best air intake if it is not F1 style.
