OK - basics.

91 NSX 45k miles tranny in snap ring range. Started experiencing in 1st and 2nd some lashing at low RPMs.

Looks in FAQs, did a search, read MB's final words on the problem. Even called the psychic hotline!

HELP!

Here we go. Here are my symptoms. At low speed and low RPMs the car JERKS back and forth. More violently as rpms drop. As RPMs rise the problem goes away. Easy to "get rid" of the jerking by pushing the clutch in once rolling.

Is this a "snap ring" experience. The FAQs are a little vague.

I have an appointment Weds to have it checked by the dealer.

Help needed:

- Can anyone elaborate on the symptoms to the early snap ring failure (please no links to the faq here: http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Troubleshooting/transmission.htm)

- Anyone had any luck with the DSM's comping this over the last 6 months (I know it is on the decline if not out)

- Anyone have or know of a good used one (I have been on Dali / MB and hope the dealer will do the "fix" case repair if not the goodwill replacement)

- My clutch has 45k miles and feels OK - can they check it and see if it needs replacing so I can save a bunch of $$$

- MILLION $ QUESTION: Can I do the repair myself? I have never worked on a NSX transmission or any transmission for that matter.

- May be a time for Barn Man - to the rescue!

Thanks!

Yeah, right - call a mechanic that's 2000 miles away...

GREAT NEWS!!!

I inspected the snap ring and it appears all right! It isn't really a ring as it is "open at one end" - right?

Anyway that is how it appears so that you can get it out with snap ring tool.

See my new post - now I have to figure out why the car is jerking...

Nick,

If you've gone through the trouble and work to take apart your transmission in order to view the snap ring...and since you say it's in snap ring range, why wouldn't you take the opportunity to replace the case?

Since you read the info, as you know this is the only fix.

Work? Was no work at all...

I removed the cover and looked at the snap ring per the TSB. It only was one bolt - took more time to find the TSB in the FAQs.

Yes - had I done that you bet ya I would have replaced the upper case.

Well, I guess some aren't as lucky to have Larry's services at their disposal.

When I get my NSX, I'll be glad he's around.

This is a novelty. NSXtasy's posts aren't usually riddled with sarcasm.
