Snap Ring Question - very common- WHAT IS IT :)

I hate to ask a question that i bet gets asked alot, but

WHAT is the SNAP RING RANGE?

people ask me if the 1991 NSX is in
Snap Ring Range.

Please clear this up for a newbie.

What is it and what are the negatives with it?
