Smoked a Nissan Z

Damn shame that it takes a 90k exotic car with 15k in upgrades to barely beat a 25k average sports car. I hope you can refrain from this kind of reckless action. You want fast, get a C6, half the price, much faster.

I just ignore them. Just look at them and smile. That will just piss 'em off more. They know they're driving home in a _____________ (add inferior automobile here) and you're parking an NSX in your garage at night. I don't even waste my time racing kids. Another reason is I'm the one with everything to lose. You can make anything fast. Some kid will have 30 grand tied up in the motor on his civic and it will blow the doors off your car in a straight line. If I get beat by that kid, well then he beat an NSX with a civic, and that's a big story to tell all his friends.... but if I win, where's my big story? I just beat a civic. I'm kinda supposed to. It's like that Chris Rock skit. "You're SUPPOSED to take care of your kids, You're not SUPPOSED to go to jail ya dumb mother @&$*(%."

This is too funny. I just had to tell you guys about this. Im driving home minding my own business when this young kid in a tricked out Z pulls up next to me with his window down taunting me to race, just by the look he keeps giving me. At first I ignore it, but since he keeps staying right next to me in traffic I know he wants a piece of me. So the next stop light turns green and there is no one on the road, so we both punch it. I dont have the quickest NSX cause its an automatic, but it is supercharged with i,h,e. He kept up for a little bit, but I slowly pulled away. The road we were on headed for a left turn and I knew his car could not make that turn as well as an NSX and thats where he really backed off. He tried to catch up after the turn but it was all over. Its such a great feeling of satisfaction when you smoke someone who is challenging you, when all your trying to do is drive home. Im so glad my car is supercharged. It wont happen again, cause im not a street racer, nor do I go out looking for this sort of thing. I just had to put this guy in his place.

I would have kept this story to myself...

Go after Porsche's, Ferrari's, VETTES, etc etc...

Talk about timing:smile: ! I just went for a 90 mile ride, mostly interstate, while cruising near the speed limit (72-75mph) a new black Ferrari coupe just quietly came up from behind and passed me by about two mph. No big deal it was like we were both on cruise control and being responsible.
I think everyone else was expecting a show or something.

I have noticed in the 7 months that I have owned my NSX that my car appears to causes some drivers, ranging from stock Civics to 360 Modernas, to rev their engines or get on the gas. However, I have only noticed a few occasions where someone wants to race. In those situations I do not take the bait. First, I'm one of those middle-aged NSX owners, so I have long since given up the urge to race – speed kills, 2nd, I already got my first speeding ticket (only me and unfortunately a CHP cruiser was in the area), and 3rd. I own a 95 automatic (one of the slowest NSX's made) so I do not want to give the owner of a slower car the satisfaction of taking an NSX.

You guys are all right. I should do nothing next time. Usually I do just let them go by. My bad

No big deal bro, just be safe......a lot of the people are very no no with street racing here. They are just trying to have you be safe for yourself and others. Theres quite a lot more stories like yours but just not shared on here. Don't worry about it.....just be safe and don't let kids bother you.

Not that I recommend street racing but...

It's not like anyone else here hasn't ever had a little low risk fun with other cars on public streets.

I certainly abstain from racing anyone I don't know as strangers can turn out to be liabilities, so lesson's are learned there. But if anyone here gets in your face about it I wouldn't sweat it.

Don't sweat it. Other then the run is somewhat lame (tricked out Z with FI?). Bone stock NA1 NSX should have no problem walking 350Zs. NA2 should run away from 350Zs unless the Zs are equipped with FI.

I read your original post, sound like this is only your 1st time. Really not a big deal.

NSX will get challenges from anything that think they may give you a run for your money. From biker, lifted trucks, exotics, muscle cars, even other NSX owners, you name it. Porsche and SVT Cobra drivers are most aggressive type in my experience. If you drive slow they will leave you alone.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the people here have raced someone....I wouldn't feel too bad. Just be safe.

I am sure you will be interested to read this. Make of it whatever you wish.

Those who have been on this forum long enough will certainly remember that both my son and I had NSX's. My son went to work for Nissan in the late 90's and was given the job of Product Planner in charge of the new Z in 2001. He used to show up to work in his NSX... Part of his job was evaluating the new Z mules against the Boxster S, the Bimmer Z(M), the Corvette (C5) etc. Tests involved a lot of track time as well as cross country trips on the west side of the US. My son always involved his NSX (slightly modified stock NA1 with about 250RWHP). He almost always observed the Z being faster at the end of the day

One quick point. All you guys are telling him to 'just be safe' when he is doing something that is completely illegal, stupid, crazy and completley UNSAFE.

When is street racing safe??????? uh, never.

(flame suit on)

street racing is not safe. but a lot of worst things aren't safe either and we all still do them.... we got to learn from our mistakes...that's how we build our life experience...

OK so you take a car like a Z06 that has 500+ horsepower. You sell it to anyone that has the money (or doesn't, and can get it from a bank). Sometimes that buyer is someone young. He is at a light and his ego is not willing to let him "lose" to another car. The race is on, someone dies. Cars are getting more and more powerful. The next Z06 is rumored to have 700 HP. Technology will make power cheaper and cheaper.

Kids are kids. They are stupid. I was one of them. Does 100% of the responsibility lie with the 17 or 18 year old kid? Is there no responsibility on the part of manufacturers to curtail this race? The reason for 500 HP in a street car is only one thing.... it SELLS CARS. If we could build a 1500 HP car for 20K that everyone could afford... would anyone object? Or do we still just sit back and say "well the responsibility lies with the driver".

I am not trying to prove any point, I am just bringing up a question.

Last night after coming back from seeing a friend, a guy in a mustang exited the freeway after me. I didn't even realize he was next to me at the light because I was on the phone, when he started revving his engine. I glanced at him for half a second and returned to my call. He kept revving his engine and I got fed up with it, rolled down my window and gave him a mean stare and motioned my head as in "what?! He turned his head straight and drove off.

I dont take crap from these punks. It's not the first time that I actually get their attention and punk them. Some will roll down their window thinking I want to set up a race with them, but then I ask them if they want a ticket. Granted , i'm not a police officer yet, but all I do is show them my Sam Browne and they'll back off.

I smoked a 350z too.... Mid Ohio. I have confined my aggressive driving to the track. :)

Maybe he was a bad driver???

My friend has a Nissan Z, and he could not keep up with my 2001 S2000....this was from a rolling start too.

The NSX is WAYYYYYYYYY faster then the S2000.

There is NO WAY IN HELL the Z is faster then ANY NSX.

I've had everything from RSXs, 350Zs, Subaru STIs, Evos--and even an LS430--try to race me. I just watch them take off and scoot along my way. I think these guys usually have some complex because today I just saw a MKIV supra and we just smiled and waved at each other.

But I don't think you deserve all the harsh comments. Don't worry about it. We all get the need for speed every now and then. Take it easy man.

New Z's have quite a bit more power these days however. Consider the power gain from around 280 to somewhere around 313bhp and a 7500rpm redline. I think they can run mid 13's.
