sister wants used mini van... suggestions?

Go with the honda all day lomg. She will def. love it and the options it has in it. I have a 02 and worked at honda for a short time. They are well cheaper to own then any other vehicle out there. They are more new but buying a used one from dealer with extended warranty is the way to go. The funny thing is you get a better warranty on a used honda then a new one. When it comes to reliability. Honda says it all. Just make sure the tranny recall/warranty was done on certain years. They had a issue were the 3rd gear slipped. if the van is used with less then 100k. you can still take it to honda and have it done for free.

^^^+1

Can't go wrong with a Certified Used Honda!! If money is an issue like you say, these Certified vehicles have a decent warranty, as well as optional additional coverage if you want total protection.

All i have to say is. "if you care about your sis. Make sure you put here into a honda." toyota or a honda is a way to go. My wifes cousin had a toyota top of the line mini van with every option. Run flats and all. Well lets say it was moving them forward even tho they didn't want to. Lol. So this year they own a odyssey. Same thing top of the line model with all the goodies. But there is no need for all the top of the line or the goodies. The dvd player is a must tho if you have kids. I went to walmart and bought the portable dvd headrest player. You can have them both play the same thing or sep. Best 200.00 i spent on audio/video for a minivan. To have the factory dvd player with one screen isnt worth the 2400.00 option. My sister is buying mine in couple weeks once they get back with my van from a florida trip. They called and offered to buy it. So now im stuch with looking for a large truck to tow my camper i bought last year.

We rented a Kia Sedona on vacation and it was surprisingly good. It handled better than the Windstar, Freestyle, and Caravans I've driven. It had an autostick with +/- mode which made driving the minivan almost fun. Overall it felt Honda-like in driving feel and ergonomics. Your sis could get a good deal on an off-lease and remember Kias have 10/100 powertrain warranty.

Is that Kia 10/100K warranty transferred to the second owner, though? I know Hyundai doesn't transfer it. It drops to a 5/60K, I think.

+1 on the Honda

I still think Toyotas are fine.....but you never know. Hondas are not perfect either.

Any pics of said sister?

I would steer her clear of a minivan since they are all wrong-wheel drive. She should look at an RX-8. You can pick up an 06 for around $15k. They are RWD, slow, but have good handling. She can easily fit small kids in the back.

Of course, that year RX-8 has starting problems so she will want to replace the fuel pressure regulator, and her fuel injectors. (I would replace the fuel pump while the car is up). She can do this in her driveway as long as she has a good torque wrench. I guess we should find out what tools she has before giving further advice.

LOL. thats funny. I had a rx8 last year. owned it for 2 years and didnt like it at all. Yeah they do have the looks but thats all. I almost put a rx7 engine into it. Good thing i sold it.

odyssey hands down.

My mother has 179k on hers and HAS NOT done any REAL maintenance. No timing belt, no waterpump, nada , just brakes and tires...and it still is in one piece.

I no soccer moms who had over 250K and have not flushed any fluids or done any maintenance and made it that far.....before the trans gave out or something.

It's bullet proof and can last 400k easy with proper maintenance.

i sold mine to my sister. They used it for a florida trip and loved it. B 4 i sold it to them i did the rear main seal. common thing for them especialy with high miles, and climate change makes it worse. dealer cost 860.00 but my buddy at honda did it for me. and we also did the tranny fluid and oil change since it was up in the air. The van paid for it self since i bought it in florida with no rust. just hail damage. Great reliable van all around. Better then my chevy i had.
