Should I buy an NSX or Viper?

Some great points there! When I drove my vipers, I got a lot of respect from other drivers. Rarely did I even get egged on by other sports cars and muscle cars. Honestly, sometimes I wished they had! Driving rthe nsx is somewhat of a different story for me. Always had someone out there with obviously more hp, trying to get me to take them on. Lol, in fact yesterday, had an mdx try to race me from the get go on the freeway on ramp.

Personally, if I was looking for the kind of brute performance that the Viper offers I would go with a C6 ZO6. No knock intended, just my personal preference.

From the range of vipers I've sold in the past that I was able to joy ride for a week or 2 with my dealer plate before selling, i must say it is fast, handles well, turns lots of heads but definately lacks in the comfortability dept. My vote is get the nsx and if your thirsty for more power just supercharge that bad asss.

Excellent example of why we should not buy from a dealership, nor leave our rare cars at the dealerships. Because the dealership people will abuse it and joy-ride it any chance they get.

+1
Can you believe a dealer would admit that?

I think I will buy a viper GTS some time this year just to experience it. For the same reason I bought a NSX because I wanted to experience it. One thing I wanted to note on a personal level, when I test drove my car, I didn't like the way the car drove or felt. Mainly because I had been daily driving my evo with new creature comforts. However after I drove the NSX to the first track event with the car, I fell in love with the car immediately. That is just my personal opinion I don't care to drive the NSX around town and don't care for the attention. But I keep a close eye on the local track days calender as I anticipate attending as many events as possible. Best car I have driven on a road course so far.

Ooooh! Ooohh! That car was driven by a.... stranger.
The dealer drove the used car before he sold it! Oooh. OOh.
That's so precious, but that's just you....

you do know that at one point your car was at a dealership? all cars are taken for a joy-ride at one point or another...

Agreed..Even with the supercharger on my 91 nsx the car only trapped around 113 mph.....My stock 99 Viper trapped 117 and my stock 2003 trapped 120....

I know speed isnt everything...But when you roll your semi exotic car up to the car meet...It's nice to know that you are a force to be reckoned with...In the Viper you are sometimes "the force" as in top dog out of 20 cars their even though they are modified and you are stock....

450 rwhp and 490 rwt SAE at 3400 pounds is a force to be reckoned with...Some of the cars will be around 500 rwhp but they will have bad turbo lag and fall to the stock Viper...Some will be naturally asperated at 500 rwhp but will weigh 3800 pounds and only have 430 rwt and fall to the stock srt10 viper..

Only the lore serious cars are gonna be able to put the srt10 away...

In my nsx...Man I dont even wanna have any speed contest what so ever...113 mph trapps even with my supercharger is like a 1997 C5 vette with a $1500.00 cam installed...

With all that said though...The nsx does look slightly more exotic with the long supercar body desighn and rear/mid engine under glass....Honestly mine with the margra hills body it and wide fenders ect...looks nicer than my stock srt10...

OK...Im getting off topic..Im gonna sum it up like this...

-With the nsx some people will say that you got it because you couldnt afford a Ferrari...With the Viper people will say holy crap a viper and not even think about ferrari..

-with the nsx the heart (engine) is a let down both in appearance and performance..The srt10 engine is gorgeous and very powerful..

You just have to really be in love with the nsx to even consider it over a srt10..

Can you picture your self telling people how your nsx is considered the Japanese ferrari in Japan or how back in 1995 the nsx one best this in that and such and such magazine...

With the nsx I always found my self defending the car...How it's not just a Honda..how it's not a ferrari wanna be....Being desighned by a famous race car driver seemed to fall on death ears as well...Well it's not that fast but it handles very nice..Ect. ect. ect...

You just have to be in love with the car..

In the Vipers ive never had to make any excuses what so ever...People know exactly what it is and what it can do and dont even question why I have it...

So if you actually read this and you are still considering the nsx then I suggest you get it...It is a beautiful car with many rewards and if you dont care about being fast then you will love your nsx...

SORRY BAT I WENT CRAZY..ILLE TALKING TO YOU SOON ABOUT ORDERING SOME MORE TINT FOR THE SRT10...ORDERED FROM YOU TWICE FOR TWO DIFFERANT VIPERS AND BOTH TIMES WAS VERY GOOD

Snakey.... you had the wrong SC on the NSX. I think the new SOS SC w/intercooler is the ticket.

Thought I recognized the screen name from the vca forums ;). Man, if I were able to, I'd have both the Viper and NSX. Send me some pics of the Overlays on your Viper n I'll add them to my Gallery ;).

Good point. But it doesn't change my perspective. First of all, not all cars get taken for a joy-ride. Most of the exotic cars are delivered with single-digit-or-less miles. If requested, they can even arrange a pick up at the port with you. And yes, any car was at a dealership at one point, joy-ride or not, but my point is simple: personally, I'd like to reduce the chance of it, is there any wrong in that?

THE SRT10 IS JUST OVERALL A BETTER CAR...better power/handling/brakeing/interior....unless you just really prefer the looks of the gts over the srt10 I would suggest a srt10...

No where in my comparison was I ever compareing a gen2 viper to a nsx..I had a 99 rt10 that was exactly the same as the 99 gts minus the roof and rear body panals.....I can tell you that hands down a 1991 nsx is a better car than a 1996 GTS Viper....The Viper is much faster..At 118 mph trapps vrs 104 mph trapps NA1 or 108 mph traps NA2....

But to me the fit finish interior brakeing ect. are all better on a nsx than gts viper...Only in 2003 could the interior ect. of a viper compete with a 1991 nsx..

The nsx was built that good...No disrespect to GTS Viper owners..The GTS is arguably the most beautiful production car ever desighned for under 150K...But I was never happy with the fit/finish/brakeing of gen2....The handling even on the gen2 1996-2002 gts is actually quite good but requires great skills to utilize

Aye, cars get driven, but preferably by its owner? I wouldn't imagine people would prefer their cars get driven by "strangers at the dealerships"...... but that's just me :D

Well, he's a used car dealer, so the car belonged to him until he sold it, right?

Every used car dealer I've ever known drives the cars on his lot whenever they wanted for whatever they wanted. It's not to their profit to tear up the cars they're trying to sell.

Snakey made a lot of good and ( accurate points ). The Viper does demand respect, and a lot of NSX owners do have to defend their cars. However I must note that the difference in power when they switched to the 8.4 liter 600hp is insane. Your looking at close to 130mph trap speeds stock, not just 123mph like the older SRT10's.

I think a lot of NSX owners couldn't care less how much respect they get from other car owners, especially as regards drag strip capabilities.

These are very good points. To buy a NSX in 2010 you really have to LOVE the car. Sports cars have come a long way in the past 20 years and for NSX money there are a lot of solid options.

To that point and to the OP, if the looks of the NSX do not work for you I do not believe it is the right car for you. I personally purchased the car because of the great overall driving experience. I have not driven anything that gives the same experience. However, this is completely subjective as I have a lot of friends who just do not get the NSX at all.

Whenever I think about buying a Viper, I realize that the car will far outpace my ability to drive it on track.

I bring to your attention Exhibit A: the car that tried to follow me through an S curve in my vastly underpowered NSX:

I would say that that is a result of the DRIVER that tried to follow you and not the car. I am sure that car could keep up with you in the hands of the right person. Obviously, that driver was not the right person.

Every used car dealer I've ever known drives the cars on his lot whenever they wanted for whatever they wanted. It's not to their profit to tear up the cars they're trying to sell.

I talked about both cars at the dealership for sale and for service. Does a car belong to the dealership during service, so they can drive it for whatever they want whenever they want during an oil change? Maybe you think so, but I don't.

I am a little surprised that there are actually people (who maybe work at the dealerships?) defending about dealerships joy-riding and abusing cars; and tried to bash the perspective of preventing the joy-riding. Sure, the dealership will joy-ride something nice whenever then can. I am simply talking about reducing it from my part, and I am not sure why someone would argue on that......

Additionally, it is sometimes, their profit to tear up the cars they're trying to sell. Because sometimes there is profit in it. My friend drove an "in-his-opinion, very rare" Integra GSR. He had some heavy modifications like many other Integra owners did, which made the car very very loud and ticked off some neighbors. One morning he found someone injected two-part-Epoxy-glue into his muffler. He cleared up some, but was unable to get all the glues out. The car drives fine, but we all knew there is a shit load of epoxy in there. One day he found an Integra at the local dealership, and he paid the dealership $80 plus labor to switch them out. He also paid them to switch out the wheels because his had a crack and was poorly repaired. The dealerships does not care about the car, but only how they can profit from it.

There was another case about a Porsche dealership switched out the ECU from a customer's car to another, because the "rich guy" wanted his car to be fixed on that same day. The other owner thought he had a defect sometime later, and somehow reported to ODI. It became somewhat a big deal, and they traced it back to the dealership and busted them.

You can defend the dealership anyway you want to, but I'll keep my perspective. I don't find dealerships trustworthy, and I am wary about them.

I would say that that is a result of the DRIVER that tried to follow you and not the car...

Hence the content of the quoted post...

Whenever I think about buying a Viper, I realize that the car will far outpace my ability to drive it on track.

The Viper takes a very experienced and skilled pilot to drive quick. To a certain degree, I always enjoyed when Vipers would come out to the track b/c they would tip-toe the corners and try to make up a bunch of time on the straights. And if they forced it their corner exits would spin them right around. FWIW, I've only met one guy that drove a Viper to it's fullest potential and he's since deceased.

In that case, you appear to have taken the conversation off to a private corner and are talking just to yourself. The rest of us are talking about a used car dealer putting his own dealer plates on a car and driving it before it sells.
