I need to work on my t-roof panel, water is getting in somewhere along the passenger roof side retainer and dripping from the front edge of the interior side trim. The leak doesn't appear to come from main body weatherstrips.

Other than what's in the service manual are there any tricks or gotchas I should be aware of with this project?

I service the rubber seals of the Targa once a year, using silicone spray grease and wipe off the excess.

The idea is to keep the rubber soft, so it seals better.

Is it coming in between the roof and windsheild gap? On the corners?

Seems to be coming in along the side of the roof around the thin rubber strip between the roof and the long body-color trim piece over the passenger window (in the manual it's called the "roof side retainer").

i replaced the rubber trim on both sides of the targa (widow seal). it is not a tough job but you should have a manual for reference as there are specific alignment procedures. also make sure to have recommended sealants and adhesive strips.

This makes me wonder if your window needs adjustment:).

Get some "Shin-Etsu" grease from your Honda dealer part no. 08798-9013 should be roughly $20 for a tube.
the shin-etsu is good stuff, and i believe it is made by honda for this purpose.a tube lasts forever if you use it sparingly (i tend to use too much, which doesn't work well)

Listen to Larry -

I advided this to another Prime member from Germany recently and he got back to me that it was not available anymore in Germany.
So investigated and it turns out it is also not available anymore through Honda dealers here in The Netherlands.

Only possible reason I can think of is it perhaps beeing banned for having some agressive or toxic ingredient as iit does say on the label that it can give skin irritation....

So get hold of any old stock you can still find as it is great stuff to revive your rubbers

Interesting. BMW used to sell its own weatherstrip dressing called "Gummi Pflege" but discontinued it a couple of years ago (much to the chagrin of its many devotees myself included.) It was cheap and kept weatherstrip soft and new-looking without leaving greasy residue on glass. Supposedly still available in Europe. If that's true I'll gladly send a few tubes of Shin-Etsu to the continent in exchange for a few tubes of Gummi-Pflege.
