bleh, I have been watching it since day 1, it was a 10 day auction, keeping it quiet, feeling out the other bids, etc. only to see it posted on prime :frown:

Seller has a $1300 buy it now, FWIW.

But it's a no reserve auction, so where it currently is priced, you would need to be desperate to buy it now!

I am more interested if anyone has USED or installed one as I can always buy one from the supplier...I am curious as to how well they work for a RACE car.

There are a few threads here on prime regarding this unit, I have been interested in one for a while as well, but not at the price tag they retail for - from my understanding of the ikeya website it is a mechanical device that shifts the 'h pattern' for you, turning it into a forwards or backwards 'shift', similar to a sequential box - there is still a clutch involved, and the device itself is all mechanical/gears, I do not know how it would respond to a partial shift, a sticky gearbox, etc. which is part of the reason I have not bought one to this point - it is an interesting option, if the price were right (a lot lower than retail) as it eliminates the danger of driver-error misshifts, but I doubt it would increase shifting speed by much, and might actually be slower than installing a short shift device onto the already short nsx shifter.

From my understanding the early units from this company had bushing issues, this *should* be one of the improved versions, which were tested in 996 porsche cup cars - this is according to the company website description.

I see the current high bidder (who outbid you scorp) is a Primer. I wonder if this thread turned him on the the auction and cost one of you some $$ or the item (depending on if you end up winning the item at close).

I talked to people in the racing NSX community and no one would endorse this product for a race car or track car so beware as it might be a dissappointment! Good luck! If it was proven I would buy one in a flash but no one has one WHY?

Just think of it as a really expensive shift knob.

I do not have any first hand expeience on this, but I would think that this product will have no gain on car's performance, unlike the real sequential tranny that shifts faster, this one still using the very same tranny you had on your car and you still have to use the clutch for up and downshifting.

I can only see couple real purposes of this shifter:

1. as the knob being higher and closer to steering wheel, maybe that will improve the reation time, it might be a fraction of seconds, but for racing and time attack, it's pretty obvious it does adds up... think of how many people sweared by the short shifter kit...

2. as I noted on the above, in theory, you won't shift faster than you had the regular H pattern shifter, however, in less than ideal situation, bad synchro, bad driving skills, frustration and simply unforce or forced errors could all happen in tight racing situations. This shifter could avoid the big and costly misshift, in minor case, you sure won't lose the drag race from the apex or more costly, you could avoid blowing the engine..... Granted, there's very few of nsx owners track their nsx, let alone in heated racing situation...

IMO, it's a waste of money in 99.9% of nsx out there, but then in the name of modify your pride and joy and be different. It's a much more unique piece of "mods" yet cost less than many of the other popular nsx parts which becomes common these days...... For example: the effectiveness of nsx-r wing and hood.....

Personally I just couldn't imagine showing up at Fordahl for a corner balance with one of these installed with all of the race prepped 996's in the stalls. The body kit is bad enough, but hell even Eddie would never let me live that one down.

I know I just would forever be refered to as the "that guy with Ikea shifter installed".

I've seen these before. I knew a guy that was importing them from the czech republic. It uses a ratchet mechanism that is calibrated to move your cables a similar amount to your normal H shifter.

I honestly don't think you will see any performance gain from this, especially if you already have a short shift kit installed.

I think the big advantage is that you are less likely to "miss" a gear (if its calibrated correctly). Not really worth the money or hassle in my opinion. The thing takes careful calibration and if the calibration is off it will be a real pain.

This is not like a real sequential gearbox, which I would love to have!

Yes, this thread did turn me on to the unit. Little good it did. I emailed the seller 3 different times asking questions, especially about the astronomical shipping charges, offering to use my FedEx account, etc. Kept getting cryptic, almost non-sensical answers. Won the auction and agreed to pay the ridiculous $120 shipping charge for something that probably weighs less than 10 pounds:(

So I get an email from Ebay today saying the seller and I had mutually agreed to not proceed with the sale, and he wanted his selling fee refunded. I said I had agreed to no such thing. Come to find out he said he "dropped" the unit and "broke it" HA

I hope someone on Prime got it, but I hope this loser does not screw someone else. Oh well.

The 'seller' is here on prime in the classifieds, selling a number of items; he is 'racer98'... he had a few other items FS on ebay with no res as well, but pulled them in the last hour (I gather they weren't high enough) - FWIW he agreed to local pickup, but his new listings mention a 'handling charge' that will be paid on pickup.

I have a second chance offer on E-bay until 4:00 pm tomorrow on this item for $850.00 if someone wants it!! I would buy it for $850.00 but not with the $120.00 shipping. and its more to pick it up
