Second leather group buy from nwautoleather.com (Closes Aug. 1st)

(Time to give this its own thread. The original thread for the first group buy is here.)

This thread is to coordinate a second group buy from www.nwautoleather.com (888 821-1066).

I have spoken to Steven (one of three owners) on the phone, and he said that he knew which tanner could supply him with the smoother Infiniti-style leather we have been looking for.

Here's the scoop on pricing from Kim, Steven's assistant:

Good morning guys!
I was pleased to hear this morning that one of you spoke with Steven last night and that you have requested to see the group buy pricing.
I would like to mention that the pricing this time will be a little steeper due to the fact that the first group buy was an experiment, (as forum group buys were still new to us) and we wanted to come in with very aggressive pricing. We cannot offer that kind of pricing again due to the fact that in the time it takes to manufacture the covers for the NSX, we can do two Corvette covers, and their group buy pricing started at $995!
Anywase, I thought you guys might want an explanation.

1-4 $795
5-10 $750
11-15 $695

Includes: Two tone and colored stitching.
Embroidery: $25/pair
Perforation: $35
Preferred Suede: $35
Door Panels: $50 in matching Vinyl
Leather Door Panels: $150
Shift Boot: $35
Console/ Arm Rest Cover: $50
Embroidery On Console Cover: $20

If all who are interested could please foreward me their address today and I will have samples of this Infiniti leather sent out so all of you know exactly what you are getting.

If any of you have any questions at all regarding this group buy, please do not hesitate to email me directly ([email protected]) or post!
Thanks!
Kim
(Note that mono/dual tone is the same price.)

Also note the close date from a post below:

Keep an eye out for other messages from Homer (who is usually Kim), as they may have info not copied to this post.

Regarding the issue of the ripples on the bolsters from the first group buy: Steven said they are tweaking the pattern slightly to address this. He also suggests using a professional installer experienced with using a heat gun to shrink the leather. That's how they got the snug fit on the yellow seats on their site.

---

This is the current list of buyers I know of. Kim said she has up to 25 people possibly interested. Please post any corrections.

Confirmed (8):

Aiken Drum
Arshad
IPT NSX
NSX PTY
bcmdjune30 (if we get to the 11+ people price)
Griffen (if we get to the 11+ people price)
phongnsx
CRCsNSXr

Unconfirmed (5):

JJCNSX (if price comes down somewhat)
deedubb (pending samples and color matching)
Bob Kenney (pending samples)
sjs
Malibu Rapper

each infiniti has a different type/texture leather. Make sure you know what you're getting. as an example, the Infiniti FX had completely different leather than the M45....I liked the leather in the M45. Also, Acura TL has nice leather as well....not sure if it is the same stuff.

Like you guys, I like the smooth look, but dont know the long term durability of this stuff.

Jack--

I'm signed up to get a sample. I will relay my feelings about the feel of it and I'll see if I can get a close-up shot of the grain with my wife's super-duper digital camera. I'll take a shot of the leather in her 2000 TL for comparison.

Durability is not something I can assess, but perhaps another person will be able to.

Edit: Nearly forgot: By "Infiniti-style", I meant the smooth kind of leather we have been asking about. When I spoke with Steven, we talked specifically about the smoothness, not just the brand reference. I only used that term because it has been used previously to describe the smoother leather we seek and I wanted to convey that we're still going for that.

how much is it gonna cost if I just want the door panels, shift boot, and center arm rest? and have them to installation?

I suppose this is asking too much, but there is no way for the original GB memeber to have some sort of special 'upgrade' price is there?

Hello Everyone
Kim fron Northwest here; I would like to mention that this group buy is also for members from the first group buy who would like to purchase accessories such as console covers and such. If you would like to purchase anything EXCEPT the leather seat covers, you may do so at any time. If you plan to purchase the leather seat covers + accessories, please do so at the end of this group buy so we do not have to charge you for shipping twice!
We are offering these special prices for the group buy only. Once the group buy closes, we will not be able to offer this pricing for accessories any longer.
If any of you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email me directly or post.
Cheers

"Polar": If you wanted the door panels, console, and shift boot your price would be $235, (with a leather console) and $135 (vinyl console) +shipping. It would take a professional installer approx. 2-3 hours to install these if you did not want to do it yourself, and they charge between $55-$75/hour.
"White94": I hope I've answered your question; let me know if I haven't!
Cheers
Kim

We have people here from 7am to around 6pm every night, so you can stop by any time. It helps if you give us a quick call to let us know if you are coming so that we have someone free to help you because we are very busy!! Weekends, only Saturday, and you have to call so that Daniel has an idea of when you will be here. Yes, we can do the installation, but if you are very far away I can locate an installer for you if you like.
I would like to mention that this group buy will close August 1st .
Cheers

Hey guys,

I got my sample today. I've done my best to replicate the setup that the original photo from GB1 was taken in. Note the bottom and right edges appear to be from the edge of the hide, so you should look at the middle and upper left to compare this swatch.

The leather is very supple and soft to the touch, and as advertised, is dyed all the way through. I'll defer to someone with more leather knowledge to describe its quality, though.

Here's the close-up shot. Note that, as expected, it does still have a rolled-in grain, but it appears to be subtler.

For those not checking the list in the first post in this thread, our count is currently 7 or 8 (not sure about JJCNSX's price conditions) who will be in if we make it to the 11+ price, otherwise there are 5 of us for the 5-10 price.

With luck, we'll pick up 3 more and get the better price. If you know anyone who might be in the market for new leather, please send 'em this way. :)

Does anyone have any ideas for us "imola orange" owners?
I would consider this but i dont want to have orange/black interior. Maybe a black leather with black suede inserts with orange stitching would look pretty cool.
Anyone have any imputs or ideas for me?

Thanks

I got the patch in the mail yesterday and it looks pretty good to me. It's quite similar to the grain on the OEM leather. This pic shows the leather patch sitting on my passenger seat. Sorry it's so blurry. I took a few other pics against the bolster, center arm rest, and side panel, but they came out even worse. Ugh. Time to get a new camera!!!

Bottom line: I'm quite happy with this grain. Matches fairly closely to the OEM leather.

Are you sure? I did a quick photochop on a red/black and it looks pretty good to me:

Also consider middle-dark gray. Gray works with both orange and black.

A rich brown might be good too, since brown is really just dark orange, but you'd have to pick the right brown.

Thanks,
That actually does look pretty good. It would have to be a really close match to imola orange tho(which yours is).
I just dont want it to be too over powering. If my car was yellow then i definitely would NOT get the yellow/black interior. that is too bright IMO.

Does anyone know if they can do Orange Stitching?

I was going to say, stitching is probably a nicer more subtle way to go. I am sure Steve can wing orange stitching for you...he has good resources:)

i'd like to get some samples of Black suede, black leather and a dark orange(closest to imola orange).

How do i go about that?

If I can find a color of orange close to the Imola...
Count me in!!

Thanks

deedubb--

Call up NW Auto Leather at 1 888 821-1066 on Monday (it's Canada, so they'll be open on the 4th) and ask for a sample for the NSX Prime group buy. I'm not sure if you'll be able to get a sample of an orange that matches imola orange, since that might require them to place an order with their supplier first, but you can ask.

You'll probably request the samples from Kim, but you might want to talk to Steven about matching the orange. I'm not sure if Kim does actual leather work, but I know Steven does and he definitely has a handle on his craft. He'll probably be better able to talk to you about your specific color needs. He's a busy guy, so you might need to ask what time of day to call in order to talk to him.

Before you call, you might want to locate some good color reference material on the web for him to look at, or maybe see if there's an Acura dealer in Vancouver, BC that can supply him with a paint swatch or a brochure.

Keep us posted, there may be others interested in your results.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
deedub: please email me your address and i will get those samples out to you today. I will speak with Steven regarding the orange; I know we have a very nice Mercedes burnt orange, but that doesn't seem to be what you are looking for........we may have to special order it in, and that can get expensive sometimes, but I'll speak with Steven and see what we can come up with!!
Cheers
