With the insurance settlement out of the way I've finally started looking for a new NSX. This time around I'm trying to find a 1997+ preferably not 'Red'... if anyone knows of one I should check out let me know? I'm also looking at a possible road trip down to the U.S for deals as well seeing how the dollar is looking way attractive to import one into Canada... So far I've found quite a bit for sale in the U.S.

Looking through the Autotrader.com and found these that caught my eye, does anyone know these cars? What do you guys think?:

SOLD! 6/25 Finally got a hold of the seller & he says she is sold....

New tires recently. 6 disc CD changer. Low mileage and excellent condition. 400 bhp on the dyno. Targa top. I am the 2nd owner and the car has been reliable. The car sounds fantastic and is lots of fun. $59,900 or best offer.

Honda simply has better engineers than most other car companies, which is how they went from zero to moderately huge in just two decades. The Accord and Civic are the benchmarks in their respective categories. A few years after they entered Formula One racing, Honda dominated the sport. The NSX is basically the street car built by the Formula One folks. This car is clean inside & out - at ture must see! both beautiful options
would be a tough choice for me
but i think id go for the 99 as the color is alot rarer and looks amazing with those mods
and supercharged as well :)

I would choose the 99, VERY Rear color, plus all the goodies are included and a one owner car a BIG Plus IMO

I don't like the exposed headlights on the 02 +.

My vote goes to Bluey.

I'd be worried about the supercharged car (which is a TWO owner car) if they ran the SC at too high boost for a while you may be getting something thats less reliable than you'd expect. The 02 is cool and unmodified, if you do choose to put a blower in you'll know everything you did, and make the decision of how much boost, etc. to run

$0.02

that makes alot of sense .... and is something to really consider in ur purchase

i would take the 2002 in a heart beat.
newer car, less problems, right?

i wish there are more choices in the westcoast...B.C. is so limited when one is in the market for nsx's..

I hear ya, I'm defineatly leaning on buying a pretty much stock car, like my previous 91. I bought pretty much stock and she was a very good car to me for over 6 years, and yes I knew everything I did.

I figure with 16k miles that an all built comtech car might be safe to buy, especailly if he has all his documentation and service history. I don't know what to look for in a Comptech supercharged car that would indicate premature wear in the motor? Maybe a leak down test if I was to go look at it?

P.S I do have a spare C30A motor now from my 91 car, and a bunch of stuff... contiplating...

Acutally both those cars I listed are from the U.S... and yes I wish there were more cars to choose from in Canada...

i wish you best of luck as i am currently looking for one too and am kind of overwhelmed at the limited choices in canada.

i wonder if shipping the car from US to BC is going to be very expensive? (lets say...from arizona for example)

Nah it shouldn't be expensive. Firstly check the www.riv.ca website for information on importing your car into Canada. Secondly I've recently purchased a NSX in New Mexico and I'm shipping it back to Dubai for $3000 U.S. It won't cost all that much to ship from Arizona to B.C.

Hey what about the 1992 Red NSX for sale in Edmonton for something like $55,000Cdn...LOL expensive hey?

I think you both will have an easier time finding a NSX in the U.S. as opposed to within Canada.

I haven't really looked into the shipping costs yet depends where it comes from I guess, but from the rough estimates doesn't look to bad, only potential problem is making sure all the paper work is in order to try and import one into Ont.

But defineatly way more choice in the U.S, and way better pricing...

Lemme know if you need help bring the car over, i buy cars from the states every week and bring them, you just need the title faxed at the border 72 hours ahead of you crossing with the car. The customs broker handles the rest. Not too much work.

Ok sounds good I'll let you know, I was also taking a look at the http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html website regarding importing so I'm good to import a 1992 and up with the required modifications for Canada (DRL's etc). I'm still looking around to see what I might end up with...

Thanks,

FAQ

Q: What models are allowed?
A: All 2006 and earlier models with normal factory equipment operating correctly.

Q: Do US spec models meet Canadian standards?
A: Almost. Items such as daytime running lights and bilingual instructions for air bags are just a couple of items that you will need to have in place prior to vehicle registration in Canada.

Q: Is the Acura warranty good in Canada
A: Yes, the warranty is good in Canada.

Q: Do I pay US sales taxes or fees?
A: There are NO export fees or any sales taxes at all if you are purchasing from Canada. The only fee you might pay is $23.50 for a 30 day temporary plate permit or bring your own plate and car registration paper.

Q: How do I get the car?
A: Have it shipped by a company that specializes in importing to Canada ship it or travel down, pick it up, and enjoy a road trip. Either the owner or a Canadian customs broker is usually required to be at the border to sign the documents and pay the fees. Shipping costs varies with fuel and etc, but is a nominal $1,000-$1,500.00 for estimating purposes.

Q: Do I pay duties or fees at the Canadian border?
A: You'll pay your normal GST. The Canadian Border Services says, "You will have to pay import assessments which may include duty, excise tax, and the 6% Goods and Services Tax. Provincial or territorial sales tax may apply when you license your vehicle.... Generally, you do not have to pay duty on an imported vehicle that was manufactured in the United States, Canada or Mexico;" from pg 9 on http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pub/cp/rc4140/rc4140-05e.pdf.

July 1, 2006
Please note that effective July 1st 2006 The GST rate will be reduced from 7% to 6%. It will apply to goods that are either imported on or after July 1, 2006, or released from Customs' control on or after July 1, 2006. from http://www.riv.ca/english/html/news_alert.html

The new import fees as of July 1st , 2006 will be as follows: Vehicles entering the RIV program with a Form 1
$222.21 for vehicles entering through a port in Quebec
$206.70 for vehicles entering through a port in any other province
The method for payment does not change. There is 1 way to pay from my experiece and that is a Credit Card (Visa, Master Card, or American Express)

*************************************
There are no duties under NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) on US built vehicles, but since Acura NSX's are made in Japan you will have to pay 6.1% on all models younger than 15 years old (i.e 91-92).

Q: Paperwork to cross the US border?
A: To cross the border you'll need for US customs the following items:

1. You'll need: MSO 'Manufacturer's Statement of Origin', a.k.a. the title, in your name. You should have the original with you which means the car was paid for and funds cleared. This title needs to be faxed for pre-approval to the applicable US border where you will cross at least 3 work days prior to crossing.

2. You'll need: Purchase order from where you purchased the vehicle with your name and VIN on it. Price and rebate and any other fees should be clearly marked.
3. You'll need: Information on door plate. (i.e. VIN plate stating the vehicle year, build date, VIN and that it was built to US specifications image below.

Q: Paperwork for licensing in Canada?
A: After crossing the US border, you'll fill out a 'Vehicle Import Form' with the Canadian customs people. This takes app 15 minutes. You will receive the applicable form in the mail a few days later from the RIV (Registars of Imported Vehicles) to which you will see an instruction list of items that need update on your NSX prior to having it inspected by an authorized RIV inspection facility. After this form is signed off by the inspector you may need to get an out of province inspection depending on the legislation in your province.

The CDN dollar is trading great on the world markets these days. Lots of bang for the buck for sure. Just ensure you do you math as the fees can still add more to a price that looks great.

i.e.
$35,000.00USD car
1.07% sell rate on CDN to USD

$34,450.00 CDN
6.1% Duty on all cars from 1993 up

$39,734.45 CDN
6% GST on everything

$42,118.50 CDN
$1,500.00 transportation
$210.00 RIV fee
$250.00 required mods
$100.00 inspection

$44,178.00

Bottomline it works out to almost $9,000.00 for the delta between CDN landed cost and US sell price or 25% as set out in this example. It's my appreciation that a super clean CDN ride can many times be a better example of the car than a large quantity of the US counterparts. It would depend if you like a highly moded, light moded, or 100% factory example of the car also.

Just my $0.02
Tim

I'm not sure if you are still looking, but there are at least 4 in Alberta on the market right now. Including one of our Prime members. They are all currently in The Auto Trader.ca
