Sad to see NSX Prime become such a ghost town

Two of my three kids have asked me that so I had to make a tough decision.

I now only have one kid.

But I console myself with the knowledge that I have an NSX.
 
Prime could be doing more to make the site a better resource. In particular the wiki could be revived. A bit of history for those who are new(ish) here: Prime management encouraged the whole community to help build the wiki and a number of us pitched in. That led to more and higher quality information pages than had been hosted here before there was a wiki. At some point the wiki got frozen and has remained so ever since. Supposedly there were technical issues about continuing the editable wiki and I have no reason to doubt that, but why throw in the towel? Where there's a will there's a wiki. If there was ever a posting asking for a volunteer to do whatever tech work was required to bring the wiki back, I missed seeing it.
 
I agree with the above. The Wiki has been frozen for the entire time I was a lurker, then the two years and change I’ve been a member of Prime. I refer to it all the time....and I do mean, all the time. Facebook is incredibly frustrating to search, but Prime and the Wiki in particular are a snap to search via the Google “whateveryourelookingfor site:www.nsxprime.com” command.

If there is someone willing to move the Wiki someplace where it’s editable again, by certain members/leaders, that’s even be better.

Good example of a needed update is the concept of cooling a CTSC, an issue currently near and rear to my heart as I just bought a used kit. [MENTION=20915]RYU[/MENTION] ‘s recent video topic on the subject is a pretty decent end-user opinion on the topic and could be added.

As the person who built the current Wiki from what was the original FAQ, I can probably shed some light on it's evolution. I believe Lud's hope was that once the FAQ material was re-organized and converted to a Wiki-style, people would embrace it and actively add content. In spite of regular promotion (some will remember the 'Wiki tips of the month'), this did not come to pass. Part of it was due to the fact that there was a learning curve in understanding how a Wiki is structured and how to add content via the Wiki editor. So, I offered to act as the 'Wiki editor' and people could just send me content. Some did but it was a handful. Let's face it, it does take effort to sit down and document your project or suggestions and not a lot in the community do that.
So, when Lud changed the site software, it was going to be a lot of effort to re-do the Wiki piece and since the material was becoming somewhat static anyway (I think this was about 2012'ish), he chose not to. The most dynamic parts of Prime are the ongoing forum threads on things like Angus' research on tire/wheel choices .. and some of the builds .. and I would stick entries in the Wiki which would just point to the thread so you could at least find them. But that was like cheating because the value of a Wiki is that someone has condensed the content in a thread (or multiple threads) and provided a readable summary ... as opposed to doing a thread search and having to read through 20 pages of crap looking for a nugget of info.

Interestingly, one of the most active parts of the Wiki was the registry where people could go in and add ownership details .. but not everyone wanted to do that for privacy reasons. And if you do a Google search on a VIN, the Prime Wiki entry will show up early in the results so you didn't even have to be a Prime member or know about the Registry to access information in it. But adding entries was a major PITA due to the required formatting. Lud even paid to have a data entry person add content from old for sale ads but it wasn't worth the effort.

So, even if Lud was able to restart the software that makes the Wiki editable, history tells us that although it was valued and well used, only a small number of people ever make the effort to add to it.
I'll leave it to Lud to add his perspectives .. don't what to put words in his mouth.

What you say is consistent with my recollection: not a lot of people pitched in with the FAQ->wiki migration. Even so, the wiki did improve on the FAQ pages. Were it still editable that would continue, even if at a slower rate than you and I might like to see.

The material may have been largely static in 2012 but there's a new NSX now and Prime has neither FAQ pages on it nor an editable wiki. When I first got interested in buying an NSX around 2002 I found the information hosted here (as FAQ pages, pre-wiki) helpful in learning and making a choice. The second gen NSX is a good car and deserves to have a decent repository of information about it and my choice of a framework for that would be a wiki.

As is, prospective buyers of the gen 2 NSX are left with searching threads for info (and they won't see anything in the secret owners-only forum).

I saw a whole lot of NSX guys in that Apex group you invited me to and it reminded me I hadn't dropped into prime in a very long time. Good to see a few old faces.

I too am still here but this forum has turned into a ghost town. Still love coming and lurking but find less and less relevant and pertinent info. S2KI has followed the same trend unfortunately.
