s2000 start button

It would be pretty cool I think just to see if someone could complete this job, and then post up a vid. So many fun ideas are conceived on message boards that never seem to come to fruition because of a lack of motivation or a lack of resources and reliable assistance.

I will do my best!! I hope you are patient though because I take forever :).

Dude, if it's one thing I have is patience and time. LOL!

I love seeing people try things that are outside the "Norm". There will always be the purists, and the "I wouldn't do that to my car" owners. And there's nothing wrong with that either. But to see someone doing an uncommon DIY project (other than self oil changes, etc) IMO is pretty cool too.

I can do better. I have a connection through some of my home suppliers and have been looking into some parts. I am pretty certain that I can create a true keyless entry/exit and engine start/stop that uses proximity and a fob that can fit on a keychain. So long as the fob is on you the doors unlock and lock (as you walk away). It allows true keyless start and will not override clutch switch. It won't lock doors if key is left inside and can activate a warning. It has biometric security and the start button will need fingerprint recognition. That then can be programmed to do a number of things. There are multiple fingerprints that can be stored, and a valet mode.

If anyone that is reading this and wants to help me with the development of a kit, PM me. I can supply the correct parts and diagrams. Needs testing, and I am a bit too busy.

What do you need exactly? Just someone to hook everything up and test it?

Yes, I am sure there will be bugs to be sorted out. It will need to be integrated somehow with the factory alarm too. I just don't have time to work on a project.

What you are looking for has already been made minus the biometrics, it is called a Star-Drive and the item can be purchased from this website:

Update - just noticed on the site the product is SOLD OUT, maybe you can get ahold of the company and see if they are done or are reordering.

Disagree... its all about "less work" for the consumer. I know its almost pathetic to think someone would favor pushing a simple button over putting in a key, and turning it. Also, its almost impossible to snap your keyfob off in the large modernized holes for keys (Audi, Mini, etc..). And like everything else, its a monkey see monkey do society..success sells. And some vehicles don't even require you put the key anywhere except your own pocket (Nissan family) People are more "wowed" at the convenience "and coolness" of not having to dig for your keys. Gotta think bigger picture here than just coolness but look at practicality. It can just be more practical (or lazy) to go the RFID or "put keyfob in this large hole, press brake and push button".

Aston Martin used the "start button" in the mid to late 90's Vanquish cars so the S2000 wasn't even the first to bring it back.

But, I can see why some would say "Why?" why others would say "Why not?" I think for us, its the cool factor first and foremost. And to add a little modern feel to a timeless classic like the NSX. Not sure I would personally go this route, but I might. But even if not, I think it's a really cool thing to do, unless it ends up being more inconvenient than cool... because at that point, it might become an annoyance. just my $.02

Ill let you know when I get my James Bond style "eject" button installed. I cant find it but last year I found a video of a company that took two Aston Martins and installed fake machine gun turrets and a real passenger airbag area champagne drop, complete with the bottle and two champagne flutes
