Rip Paul Dana

The video of the crash was just shown on CNN. Looked like a terrible crash. Appeared to me that he was at full speed when the contact was made.

:frown: This was a terrible accident. God be with him and his family.

GODSPEED to anyone involved in a motorsports death RIP

I know it is unfortunate to lose a life in auto racing.

BUT

What do you expect when Tony puts guys in 200+ mph cars with the experience of a valet.

The racing credentials (except for the CART/Atlantic traitors) reads like a auto-x sign up sheet.

I agree the safety has gotten better in the last 2 years, but the CART guys reduced the inexperience by 50%.

I really believe that profesional auto racing needs to be a step system, not just jump in a car because your stepdad says so.

Drivers like ED C. and the like should be driving at the regional SCCA races in a miata, NOT in a top tier open wheel car.

IRL fans flame away. I won't even put my suit on.

Hey, I just read he was from St. Louis. I hate seeing stories like this. It makes you sad seeing someone taken away so early in life that was just starting to live their dream. As others have said may God give his family strength during this tragic time.

I agree with RP-Motorsport about the lack of driver abilitiy in the IRL field. Not only is Ed C very green, the guy who died was a very low on experience too, and obviously never lifted, even though others had time to slow down before coming upon the stalled car.

Does anyone have a link to the crash video?

I was watching this on replay at a Red Robins with the kids. It was before he had died so they were still showing it. There was no sound and I didn't know it was a replay and all I can say is "shi@$#" when they hit. My second thought was "what in the hell happened?".

On the replay the white car hit the top of the wall pretty hard and a few cars had to duck around him. He was sliding down the track and you could tell by the smoke from the tires he was braking fast and he was sliding down the track. Several more cars passed at a safe distance and greatly reduced speeds.

Then WHAM! Dana's car collides at FULL SPEED. It seemed completely unbelievable! With the time from the first accident to the second must have been 9-10 seconds. Either communications were down or Dana wasn't paying attention at all to the lights and the other cars on the track. The only thing I could think about it nobody was around him (hard to believe since they had all 20 people on the track) and he missed the lights and had no idea about the accident. Maybe they need an emergency system in the cars to announce / show an accident?

Terrible tragedy and a sad day for open wheel racing.

His spotter advised him about the incident and told him to go low. Rahal said there was no problem with communications so it must have been inexperience that resulted in him never slowing down in response to the warning and the yellow lights.
