REVIEW: ScienceofSpeed Sport Clutch & Flywheel

Holy-Batman!! lol I see yours is intercooled mine '00 isn't... or at least not yet... possible winter project. Tuner thought it could make more & to take it to 400rwhp but for safety we left it where it was, intercooling it to bring the temps down then we can go a bit higher he thinks should hit 415~430ish maybe? Running Ark DT-X exhaust + Comptech headers + Uni Filter drop in so my car hugs the environment all emissions are in place cats, O2's etc.

Of course it's intercooled. BATMANs dun fool around with safety.

Did u write a review on the SOS SC?

I'm going to with some nice videos.

Chris, does the SoS Sport Clutch rev quicker than the Comptech Powergrip clutch, i.e. does it have a lower moment of inertia?

I honestly haven't driven a Powergrip in some time, so I am not sure. However, I would think that the Sport would be a little quicker reving since it has less mass towards the outer diameter of the clutch. If you'll be at NSXPO, there are several cars with the Sport clutch that you can listen to.

Thanks – and it looks like the spring flanges on the SoS Sport Clutch disc should be sturdier than what you’d get with a stock twin-disc clutch/JUN flywheel combination.

Chris - Is there a noticeable difference in rev-blip due to reduced MOI between the Sport Clutch and the Billet Twin Carbon Clutch, or are they about the same?

I can vouch for this Sport clutch. I have one and I love it. If I could go back in time to all the mods I bought this would have been the first one in priority now that I know better. It is a good price and drives amazing. It is lighter in pedal pressure than my BMW stock clutch which is butter.

Thanks for the review Ryland, we appreciate it!

Last post in this thread is almost one year old now. I am looking at a new clutch- either SOS Sport clutch or CT . With the passage of time Is there anything new that has been learned ?
Thanks

I'm not saying this just to say it, but almost everytime I get in my car, I think to myself how much I love this clutch.

Thanks- i have seen and heard good things. Just curious if, through time, opinions have changed. I think i am going the SOS route !

The reviews are accurate. It is a light pedal pressure clutch, but it does grab more aggressively at higher RPM when you shift hard....which is what I wanted.

It's silky smooth in traffic. Honestly, they say the clutch is just a tad firmer than OEM, but in my opinion, the pedal pressure seems to be a hair lighter. I love it.

If at all possible have SoS install the Sport Clutch. They know how to do it correctly.

I had an experienced NSX technician install mine, and unfortunately I am having problems. My Sport Clutch is dragging in 1st gear, and it shudders badly. How I wish I had driven the 450 miles to Phoenix for the installation. I may yet have to take my car to Phoenix to get this issue corrected.

Let my misfortune guide you...

1st let me say that I am not basshing our local Acura dealer or SOS. My clutch took 7 weeks to get installed. Chris even sent a 2nd clutch to see if the 1st one had a defect. No change. What is crazy is that one week before the dealer installed a cluch in another NSX with no problems. It came down to a hydralic issue two slave and two masters were replaced. I just still do not understand that when I took my car in there were no issues with the engament at all. Now I did drive my car to SOS to make sure that it was adjusted properly and now have over 2500 miles on it. Just make sure that werever you take it they undersatand clutches. Both our local dealer and SOS worked hard to get this issue resolved and a thanks to both of them.

I love my SOS sport clutch.

After going through a number of dual disk OEM clutches, I quickly placed an order after SOS introduced its single disk sport clutch. And I wasn't disappointed. It offers OEM or better drivability but significantly better strength and durability. And the the lightweight flywheel is icing on the cake. A great product.

And I am not the only one that thinks so.

Make sure your clutch damper was removed. SOS sells a clutch damper delete line. It takes about 20 minutes.

I just bought that SOS sport clutch and flywheel kit (waiting to receive it), but they did not mention it required the clutch damper to be delete. Can anyone confirm this?? Thanks

^I don't think mine was deleted either and my clutch functions perfectly. May want to confirm with SOS as to whether or not this is needed.

Deleting the clutch damper is not required. It is suggested if the clutch will be used for road racing or high performance use where the factory delay valve will cause quick engagements of the clutch to be slowed causing the clutch to slightly slip during upshifts and downshifts.

cheers,

I keep 'un'liking my stock flywheel (see another thread) and this lighter fw with same or better drivability sounds great.

Am supposed to be speaking in Scottsdale in February; do you have a retail showroom? Need other things. Would love to come overspend.

Yes, you're welcome to stop by. We are located in Chandler, AZ. Depending where you are in Scottsdale, this is about a 15-30 min drive. Please call in advance so to give us notice you'll be stopping by. We usually have this product in stock and we have this clutch installed in two of our test cars.

Cheers,
-- Chris

We have installed several of these and have not had one complaint from anyone. I ran this clutch in my turbo NSX and it was a pleasure to use and handled the power very well. We also have one in a 555whp NSX and it is handling that well also. We Highly recommend it!
