reverse lights--stupid question

Hi all,
I was just informed that both of my reverse lights are not working. I read before that there is a plug below the factory air box that is sometimes the culprit but everything seems to be fine in this case. I've checked the reverse bulbs and those are fine too. Unfortunately, 1) I don't have high speed internet access and 2)no service manual as of yet. Is there a fuse that I should be looking for? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance and please pardon the "hopefully" simple answer.

The circuit for the Backup Lights is on P. 23-197 of the '92 manual, with the troubleshooting guide on the next page. I think the '91 manual on this website is the same. Fuse #5 (Underdash Fuse Box) is not the problem, unless you have many other symptoms. That only leaves the Backup Light Switch, on the transmission case, and the wiring, connectors, and lamp sockets. Use a voltmeter or ohmmeter to check. By the way, did you ever get your Cigarette Lighter and Rear Window Defroster fixed?

Sorry that I missed the part about the high speed internet access, so downloading the service manual is a very slow process for you. Chapter 23 is long, but it might be worth the wait. Anyway, it should be a snap to check the switch for continuity, and to see that it is actuated when the gearshift is placed in reverse. Beyond that, you will need to track the wiring, yellow back to the fuse, and green/black from the switch to the lamp socket, and black to ground (of course).

You're right, the download of the online manual is VERY long under normal download. I'll take off the airbox and check for that switch again on the tranny case when I get off work tonight (hopefully this rain will pass). Oh, by the way, yes I did get my cigarette lighter fixed but the rear window defogger problem is still haunting me.
