Anyone no what can cause this other than bulbs or fuses? I have replaced and checked both. By the way, the car is a 6 speed, if that helps. I heard of some reverse light switch that is controlled by the shifter on some cars. Any info appreciated before I take the car to the dealer.

TIA
Chris

Hmmm....there's a 2 wire "Back-up Light Switch" mounted on the Transmission. It's kinda, sorta near the Starter side and can be easily seen if your stock Air Intake box is removed.Check so that the "connecter" is connected. This is commonly NOT re-connected, such as after a transmission has been re-installed from a clutch job. If the connecter is okay,Check for continuity and voltage, just follow wires to the Back-up Light Switch and check that it's 2-wires are still attached. Some may have carelessly removed the transmission before disconnecting the connecter.(ooops)Some may even find it easier to unscrew the Back-up Light Switch off the transmission. If so, then check that there is a special washer type seal in between. You may even try replacing it, if all else fails. As quoted, "This washer must be replaced for the switch to function properly and to prevent oil leaks". A Genuine Honda/Acura part only, of course.
Hope this helps.

Bruce,

Thanks for the advice. Plugged it in and it worked right away!

Justin,

Give it a try. It's pretty easy after you remove the airbox. There are some helpful diagrams on pages 200-203 of the 1991 service manual in the electrical section under "back up lights". Mine had a loose harness dangling there.

Ok, I'm sure I'll get blasted for the stupidity of my question, but it's my first NSX so I want to be careful.
My reverse lights are not working and I've tried everything from the searches I've found on prime, ie. fuse, voltage, etc. So now I'm down to checking the switch/cable on the transmission housing. Mine is a 1991 5MT.

Question of the day is.... do I access this housing from the top or do I have to jack up the car and come from underneath?
Thanks!

top. remove the intake box. just like wat Bruce posted above.. look for loose wire/harness.
good luck

Thanks, I did this, and the wire wasn't loose. It did look a little "old and degraded". I found a replacment online for $32.00 plus $7.00 for the back up wire clamp. They should be pretty soon so I'm hoping the new wire does the trick.

After doing a bit of searching, it turns out getting the backup light switch that goes on the transmission case was cheapest through my local dealer. Their product price was a little higher, but shipping to Hawaii sucks and their final price was $80 shipped within 3 days.
Did the trick! Reverse lights now working.
