Reprogram ECU?

A friend of mine is having his ECU re-programmed tomorrow on his 930 Turbo (going from 540 to 600 HP). He has some guy coming out to his house to do the programming. He said I should have my ECU reprogrammed/tuned. Has any done this with a stock ECU on a stock NSX? Would there be any benefit (added HP)? Or does the risk outweigh the reward? Does anyone know who makes the stock ECU for a '91 NSX? Thanks!

You can re-chip the W.O.T. mappings but nobody I know has ever reprogrammed the stock ECU. Even the W.O.T. is only good for 15-25 HP depending on other mods and your comfort with a slightly higher rev limiter.

A programmable ECU that is getting a lot of talk is the AEM one. Just click on "forced induction" to read about it as it is an ongoing thread. Stock reprogramming has not to date brought a lot of "closed loop" performance benifits but then again if you are not flooring it - why change it? So in reality the best you can do it look at chips. My favorite is the Dali Hot chip as it baked the competition in a dyno day (surprising how many chips actually lost HP/torque vs stock)

Good luck and do a search for lots of information

BTW - I am sure your 930 friend is getting his boost adjusted or no longer has the stock ECU and not his ECU re-mapped - IMO. I had an early 930 and there was not much in the way of electronics back then.
