Replacing tripmeter

Hi,

I finally got around to taking out the gauge cluster to take out the tripmeter
that's been stuck for years. It was stuck at 0 and clicked everytime it was
supposed to turn. I figured there was some debris or broken parts that got
wedged in the gears.

When I finally got it out, I was right. One of the levers/tabs that is used to reset
the meter broke and got stuck between the ones and tenths dials.

Now I'm sort of debating if I want to take a few weeks to find a replacement or just put this one in. In its current state, it seems to work... meaning it will keep the mileage count. It has a bit of trouble reseting it back to 0 though. I think with the missing lever, it works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. I think it's dependent on what mileage is shown but I'm not 100% sure. I guess I can live with this.
I just couldn't ignoring the constant annoying clicks before. It would be nice to reset it back to 0 whenever I want instead of guessing when it will work.

I've attached a picture of the tripmeter and the broken lever.

If I were to looked for a used tripmeter, where is the best place? I've already posted something in the 'parts wanted' forum.

Btw, would people be interested in a step by step picture of what I did to take apart the gauge cluster? If so I'll post it as part of another thread here.

Yes, I for one would be very interested in a step-by-step DIY-report for the dashboard.

I have the same problem with my tripmeter and still have to take the cluster apart to check it. Problem arose when I tried to put it back to zero while driving. Stupid idea of course...

BTW, personally, if I am going to take the cluster out, I plan on painting my cluster rings as well.

I have the same problem. I'd like to read your procedure. What does Honda charge for a busted trip odometer?

Thanks.

I think there are shops that can repair those. Probably won't cost too much either.

DocL,

Are you saying there are shops that will replace/fix the broken plastic piece on the tripmeter?

As for the DIY guide for taking apart the cluster, I'll try to get that up once I find a replacement part. I'm taking the pictures in backwards order. Forgot about doing that when I was taking it apart. I was busy cursing...
