Replaced injectors witn RDX kit - engine occasionally stalls on start?

I can't seem to figure out where the problem might be on this one. I've had my prospeed RDX injectors installed correctly for the last week now.

When the car is cold, it starts up and idles fine. But after its been driven till warm, and shut off, it stalls on ignition unless I give it some gas.

So... drive around,
shut car off,
start car (revs up to 1500, falls to 0 and stalls),
start car (revs up to 1500, falls to 0 and stalls),
start car (get sick of stalling, hold gas a little, revs up to 1500 and stays on)

So it's not the ignition switch/main, since it can stay on with gas, right? When it's on, it runs fine....

I had this issue as well so I warmed up the car, turned it off, pulled the clock fuse for a few min, put it back in, and then turned the car back on. At this point it was revving a little on its own as the computer is relearning so I waited until the car found a smooth idle and sustained it. I then turned it off to save it, then turned the car back on and took it for an hour drive at various engine speeds and loads so that the ecu has properly learned all the little fuel trims that it needs to run right and now I do not have that issue anymore. Worth a shot, worse case scenario is you got a nice drive in :)

I've done that twice already :frown:
But I'm about to go for a drive, so perhaps I'll just do it again.

Which ecu reflash are you guys using? Prospeed? If so, stage 1,2 or 3? I am waiting to get my ecu back from prospeed..

Stock works for me. and it always will good luck guys I hope you don't get stuck on the side of the road.

Had the exact same issue, you need the injector resistor bypass plug that should have been supplied in the RDX kit. If not contact prospeed.

see this and make sure you are following it. Thanks

Did that 3 times now... went driving around on Sunday and it came close but didnt stall.
It dipped down to 2-300 rpm on starting once, though...

Yep, have that installed. I'll drive it around more this weekend and see if it keeps dipping/stalling.

Just got mine today. Strange question; The chip that comes back is the old chip and not one I need to install right?

it should be if you asked prospeed to install it. the obd1 oem chip will have markings like Japan 270256A-20-XGT 12.5V PGM.
prospeed's been putting brand labels on their chips too...you could unscrew the 5 screws and take a quick peak.

Bobby,

Thanks, it was the old chip but I just had to make sure. Install went extremely well! No issues at all, no rough running engine just a high idle for about 1 min. Then smoothed out. I did not need to reset the ecu with the clock fuse. Took the car out for a few runs and it definitely pulls harder. The RPM jumps quicker from 6k to redline.

Neon, I sure you have thought of this and have probably done this already, but have you checked all the connections on the by-pass and the ecu?

Great to hear! I still think you should pull the clock fuse and reset the ecu. When Prospeed was out here said it was important and you and I have the same tune.

neon,

After pulling the fuse and starting the car how long are you letting it idle?

Have you called or PM'd Brian from prospeed? I ended up having a small issue after I went back and pulled the fuse. I guess I didn't let the car idle long enough and went for a drive. After about five minutes the car would not go past 4k rmp and the TCS warning light stayed lit and also the check engine light. Got home repeated the process and waited 15 to 20 minutes while the car idled then drove around again without any issues.

What I've been doing:

1: Let it idle to warm up stable temp
2: turn off car, pull fuse
3: wait 10 mins
4: put fuse back in, turn on car, let it idle for 15 mins
5: turn off then on
6: drive around

The idle is suppose to fluctuate in #4. But for some reason, whenever I have resetted my ECU, mine has never fluctuated. Maybe the first 5 seconds, then it's constant at 900 rpm.

OK, now I am starting to get pissed! Went out to the car today and on start up the Check Engine light and TCS light came on again and now it won't clear! I had the fuse pulled for over an hour and still no reset! I am now pulling the fuse and disconnecting the battery to see if this will help. Anyone else with the prospeed ECU upgrade and RDX injectors have this problem?

Neon,

Any luck yet?

Where is Prospeed at? There are 2 people with issues within the last couple days after installing thr prospeed chip. So where is Brian? I was suppose to receive my ecu back today, maybe it will be here tomorrow, Brian wont send me a tracking, so who knows..

Hopefully this issue gets resolved, keep us updated!

Brian has gotten back to me - he said it sounds like it should be fine... and I should send the ecu back to make sure the rom isn't corrupt. I'm not going to wait around for another month without my car.

Went out for a drive today, and it didn't stall once on several starts. It did, however, drop down to ~200-300 rpm's on each start, before stumbling up and saving itself.
Also, while pulling on an on-ramp in second, the TCS light came on and it fell flat on its face.

There are many times where it feels like the car has less power than it should. It's odd... half the time I'll floor it, and it will feel great. Other times, I'll floor it, and it will feel like it's got half the power.

I'm planning on sending my stock injectors to get cleaned/flow tested. Then I'm going to install them, and sell the prospeed kit. I don't like the uncertainty of it.

A much more expensive alternative would be to keep the RDX injectors and run another stand alone ECU besides the one you have now, if the budget allows.

Send me the ecu bud. Let me test it out to make sure it's not another issue. Thanks!
