Does anyone know how to remove the padded door sill? My leather covering is coming out on the edges and I would like to tuck it back under.
Any help would be appreciated.

they still sell them new from the dealership.

I tried to reapir mine using 3M spray adhesive but it bubbled the leather
then I tried hot glue and when the sun heats it up it melts and had to buy new carpet LOL

trust me buy them new and save yourself the headache

Just grab it and yank it straight up. On the driver's side make sure to remove the fuel filler handle first. Use crazy glue to reattach the "pleather".

This is a real simple fix! It costs around $400 to replace both pieces. You can do it yourself for about $25.00.

First, the material on this piece is not leather....it is vinyl.

Go down to your local automotive or fabric shop that sells vinyl. Find a vinyl that matches your interior (real easy with black interiors). Will cost about $5.00 to get enough vinyl to cover both padded pieces (1/4 yard).

Remove the padded trim pieces on both driver's and passenger's sides. Just pull up and they will lift with a little bit of resistance. Removing the padded piece on the driver's side is a little more difficult since you have to remove the gas cap lever first.

Turn the padded pieces over and use a small screwdriver to remove the two spoke type washers that holds the hard plastic piece to the padded trim piece.

Tear the OEM vinyl off the padded trim pieces. Pulls off with almost no effort. Discard the vinyl and clean the glue residue off the padded piece.

Take your new vinyl as well as both padded pieces to your local automotive upholster. He will use his spray gun with adhesive to cover the two trim pieces. He will then use your new vinyl to cover the pieces. Shouldn't cost you more than $20.00 or so since this can be done in about 20 minutes.

Reinstall the two hard plastic trim pieces onto the padded piece using the same spoke washers (paint these two hard plastic pieces with SEM brand plastic paint if they need it. SEM brand has all interior colors found in Acura vehicles and runs about $15.00 per can)

Poof, you have two brand new padded trim pieces at a fraction of the cost new!

I hate to bring this one back from the dead but I am in the process of removing my sills and I am stuck. The passenger side was cake but the drivers side is a no-go so far because I can't figure out how to remove the knob (#1 in the attached pic) from the gas door opener. It seems like it would be really easy to break if not done correctly too. Any tips you guys can give me?

I had to remove that annoying bit when I was messing around with my ipod adapter. Ended up wiggling it back and forth while pulling straight back on the plastic tab until it popped loose.

The knob slides right out. Just grip it. And pull toward the front of the car. Don't pull up, just pull toward the front, or if you pull the lever so the gas cap opens just pull the same angle and pull toward the front of the car.

It should slide right off.

Then just grip the bolsters and pull straight up. There's 3 clips that attach them.

Actually, its rather funny that you are bringing this back from the dead because I am fixing up the mistake that Passline made when he did this on my (previously his) car. Certainly no offense to Passline, it *IS* easy to break and his broke when he installed it. Ben from Daisy Auto spotted the break and instructed me that it is very important to lift the piece straight up while squeezing firmly in the center. Don't twist or turn it as it is all plastic under there and will crack easily. Go with a firm, straight motion.

You may also want to take care with what adhesive you used. The crazy glue (or whichever adhesive) that Passline used did not hold up and it ended up coming back off. I will check with Ben as to which adhesive to use though.

On the plus side, a cracked sill is essentially invisible to the casual observer. I have had the car for just under a year and never noticed it. It wasn't until Ben used his jedi NSX skills on the car to spot the problem.

My pleather was no longer attached to the underlying foam and was loose on both sides. After removing the pads I picked up Velcro with adhesive backing. It attached easily and with good strength to the plastic inner edge - when it came to attaching the opposite Velcro to the pleather, the adhesive was useless so I sewed it...but then got lazy and started stapling it. Since this part is tucked under and attaches on the hidden inner edge, the stitching / staples are not visible.

I did not reattach too the foam at all. Cost $14. Could have gone with $5 Velcro set because you only need 1/4" strips

Experiencing this same issue! Read dirtiehippie and Steven's responses, followed their directions, to no avail..... knob "paddle" will NOT come off. Worked this with sca037 and each took multiple tries at it.

Don't really want to grip it with anything (pliers) or pry on it for fear of breakage. :frown:

Any other suggestions?

I recall when I did this on my 91, I struggled too. I finally did use pliers, but I covered the paddle with a cloth so that the jaws did not mar the soft plastic. Pulling straight toward the front of the car, it came right off. Turns out I just couldn't get enough friction on it using just my fingers to pull. Hope this helps.

Little tip. If you go to Home Depot or Lowes or .... you should be able to find silicon self amalgamating tape from a company called Gardner Bender. You stretch and then wrap this stuff on itself and it binds to itself - rather permanently and quickly; but, it does not adhere to other surfaces. Stretch and wrap the tape around the knob 2 - 3 turns to give you adequate surface protection for the knob. The stuff will stay in place and has plenty of grip to allow extraction with a set of pliers. Tougher and does not slip like a cloth can.

THANKS Honcho and Old Guy!

I'll drive to Home Depot tomorrow AM and attempt to locate that magical tape, then go at it again. Appreciate your assistance.

Another go at it, and

it finally came off - pulling forward hard! Without breaking it, too

I replaced the door sills on my Onyx interior with blue ones - the plastic door "runners" as well, and installed OEM blue carpets - on 2005 LBBP/Onyx six speed. Mix it up a little.

Thanks again.

lets see pic!!!
