Can you remove the roof panel on a '91 NSX? I looked in the service manual and it gave a part number but no instructions on how to take it off. I need to have it repainted (clear coat issues) and the body shop is looking at removing the front window, rear hatch... to get a clear shot at just the roof. Removing the roof would seem to be much easier - I also could just leave the roof panel with them rather than the whole car.

Are you serious? Here is what the owners manual says you need to remove the roof on a '91, Please note to use a metal cutting blade and not the wood cutting blade as shown in the picture.

remove the glass, youll be happier with the results! I just had my roof painted and I took all the glass out and even replaced the windshield gasket as well. Its common for the front windshield gasket to shrink over time so its almost like preventative maintence. Most importantly the paint work will look nicer with no overspray on the moldings...

91's do not have a removable roof panel. Are you sure the manual you are looking at is for a 91? Most 95 or newer models came with the removable panel.

Yes it's a '91 manual. If you look at page 20-2 it shows a drawing of the NSX with a frame for the roof. It looks like a panel fits over it. On page 20-3 it talks about the different aluminum alloys used in the NSX and describes the "roof panel" as HAZ6083-T4.

Oops - I just read on page 20-2 that: "Outer panels (except the roof) are constructed of individual panels to allow more convenient and economical repairs".

Nevermind

Despite the fact that the parts manual shows it as a separate panel, that doesn't mean its a 'bolt on' panel. It just means that you can buy it separately although welding is required for proper fittiment :)
