Recommendation for extreme track/street tire for 17x8 and 18x10?

I love my R888.

R888's on a s10 pickup?! Lol!

I've been dying to try to the Federal 595 RS-Rs in NSX sizing. I loved them on the track in my Mazdaspeed3.

King of cheap.... LOL...

Any comparisons of R888 with RA1 by same owners/trackers of both tires/setup would be appreciated.

I think CL65 Jim has used them all. He liked the NT01.

I have used all three - R888, RA1 and NT01. I like the NT01 the best and it is also the cheapest by several hundred $ a set.

As well, I have used NT01s in 235/40/17 & 275/40/17 (track wheels) and on my stock 02 rims 205/40/17 & 255/40/17. The 205 & 255 fit OEM, are cheaper and my times were very comparable to the 235/275 set. For HPDE I don't think it matters.

The 205/40/17 NT01 is much quicker around the track than the 215/40/17 Dunlop Z1, so don't get wrapped up in width.

The other advantage to the 205 (including fitting on the OEM wheel) is you don't have to worry about rubbing.

Were your times comparable because grip is comparable or were they comparable because you know that track so damn well you would post the same lap time in a Fiat X19?

Jim how were you able to fit the front 235 nto1 without serious fender issues? What wheel and offset?

From all local trackers who do drive to the track on the same wheels, they all concur that the NT01 is the choice.

I guess the comments by 1K2GO that they are really wider and hence tend shred the liners is the concern. If indeed this is the case, then i still think the RA1s may be the compromise.

I did'nt have the balls to order the 235 front nto1 and wussed out with a new set of old faithful ra1..Jim says his laptimes with the 205 's were similar to the 235...who knows.

they probably rubbed on the inside only.
With 235/40/17 NT01's mounted on Advan RSII 17x8.0+37 they make contact with the center outer edge of my front fenders. I have trimmed my liners away to accommodate them and this reduces the contact substantially. This is with camber set at -3.2 degrees. "Rubin is racin"

Glad you responded. That is some serious rubbing if you have such a camber setting; most of us are in -2.5 at best. With your camber I'm thinking one would clear top corner-center of the liner. I minimized such rubbing with my camber when using the RA1, and had no rubbing with the 225/40/17 Hoosiers.

But this begs the other question; how low is your car and where are you measuring from - preferably from the jack point?

For track usage, the fender contact on the NT01 is acceptable. As a comparison, I also have 0 contact issues with the Hoosier R6 225/40/17

Ride height:

Measured from the forward leading edge of the forward jack point: 3.5" or 9cm

Measured from the forward leading edge of the middle jack point: 3.75" or 9.5cm

Measured from the trailing edge of the rear jack point: 4.0" or 10cm

plus your front et is a 37 which is pretty low for the nsx ie "aggressive'" ....I have two sets of track wheels 42 and 45 et and the ra1 with the 42 rub slightly on inner fender well and are just lightly shredding the outer fender liner. I will see how the 45 et wheels do at wgi next week.

Good point. The CE28N high pad 17x8 has an offset of 38.

.......so the 235 ra1 on the rpf1 at 45 et worked ok....the fender liner is torn only slightly about 6-7 inches and that is easily repaired with electrical tape. The rear 9.5 inch at 38 et needs a 5 mm spacer so it becomes a 33 et but no issues with 274/35/18.this is with type R susp.

Perhaps with a bit more camber or slightly higher front ride you may avoid the fender rub with 235.

I pondered on this question too - and I think it is because Jim is normally aspirated, hence the tire size is not that critical for grip since he doesnt have an extra 100 rwhp that is pushing. The extra tire weight in 235/275 may be marginal (track wheels may as light as the OEM if not less) and other variables such as ambient temp etc may influence the "comparable" to "identical."

I don't understand why you say you need a spacer. Can you explain how that helps the rear?

because this wheel design needs the extra 5 mm to clear the stock rear calipers.
