Rebuilt compressor? on ebay?

That seems like a pretty decent price for a new non-OEM compressor. I need one, and the seller is local to me, so I emailed him to see if he's got a storefront or would accept local pickup..

He wrote back saying yes, and gave me a phone #: 818-782-3501

A quick google search on the phone # brings up this place: http://www.lucasautoair.com/

Perhaps we could even get a discount if we buy a couple. At least it should be cheaper to buy in person instead of over ebay, since we can avoid the fees. Anyone else need one?

It's been pretty brutal in the heat! I've missed out on several drives, having to yield to the gf and her functioning A/C! I really like the idea of buying from someone local. I will pick up one of these units this week! I'll call you to schedule the install.

As far as my work goes, I _still_ can't talk details, but here's an article that's being published in the next issue of my college's alumni mag:

I won an ebay auction for the above 'New' compressor from lucas auto air (user CarCompressors) - for only $150. There was a multi-unit (2) auction and the price stayed nice and low. Keep an eye out for another one of these and you might get lucky like I did.

I went and picked it up in person at their 5-bay service facility in Van Nuys. When Rob (RON98) was installing it last friday, he noticed that the brand name is 'NEW' - even says so on the compressor itself.

I mentioned the pulley size issue, and they said that's all they had. Of course, when we got the old unit out, it was clear that the new one came with the wrong size pully. So Rob swapped it for me.

A/C blows nice and cold now!

Heh. I "won" from ebay a pair of tie rods for another car that was advertised to be "O.E." brand.

Sure enough, the brand name was "O.E. Brand".

In my case, the parts were shoddily made which required an hour of cutting wheel time to fit and the rubber boots cracked/withered away in a couple of months.

I was not impressed.

As with our current administration that redefines basic terms*, I now have no idea what "OE" or "New" means anymore.

It seems to be a trend.

I was considering the rebuilt compressor from Ray Laks Acura... they said it was somewhere around $350... is this a good deal? I remember buying one for my 91 and it was almost $800!

Was thinking of having it replaced since my compressor is making noise... AC works fine but I'd rather have it replaced while I get my timing belt done.....

Stay away of rebuilt ones because they're said to fail soon. The $800 is rip-off! I've paid less than $400 for an OEM Acura part. But remember all parts are separatly, clutch and coil add $275. With them it's a COMPLETE new compressor but stil less than the $800.

I am getting some whirring noise when my a/c is on and the pitch changes with the RPMs. I think I am getting one of these. I plan on staying with R-12.

A new OEM Denso compressor already has the sealings that are needed for R134a. The only difference in the Denso R12 and Denso R134a are the plugs. This is what Denso Germany told me. Therefore: Even if 91-92 cars go to R134a they should buy the R12 Denso unless you want to change the lines to the compressor anyway.

I just found this thread. My car is already in the shop for a clutch replacement. The shop is the Acura Dealers lead techs house doing side work. He is NSX certified and came recommended. Point is I am having him fix my A/C also that has never worked and he said the compressor was leaking badly. He suggested a rebuilt OEM from Acura, said list was like 600.00 and his cost was 511.00, I agreed and that is what is being done. Also converting to 134a with a New Dryer. He is buying these parts from the dealer I presume, so how did you " GoldNSX" pay less than 400.00 for a new one, did you just get a really good deal or did I get ripped?

I think you might be getting ripped Greg Z. But I am no expert regarding these a/c compressors. I always shop around on the internet and find the best deal on my own parts, then pay a reputable NSX tech to install them. I know there is alot of money to be made on the parts alone.
