Rear Wheel Squeaking

My drivers side rear is starting to squeak with rotation. Inspection is uneventful. Cant find anything leaking or loose.

It squeaks with/without power (in neutral or in gear), without braking. It speaks going flat, up or down and going straight, left or right.

The squeak is most apparent at slow speeds and it is related to wheel rotation as it speeds up with increased wheel speed. It may be squeaking with high speed too, but it is not apparent to my ears.

It doesnt sound like brake squeal, which I also get, but its a different sound. I can not hear any grinding or otherwise concerning noises, just squeaking.

Any ideas? If it were not related to wheel speed, I would say that its a squeaky spring on my coilover, but it is definately related to wheel speed, which means its either driveshaft related, hub or brakes. CVs or dry hubs squeak?

My drivers side bearings were replaced a year ago.

Car is an 02 with ~23k miles on it.

Yes I think it does go away when the brakes are applied, possibly only because wheel speed is slowed.

I think that I have 15% pads left back there. Im going to put new ones on and inspect the brakes while they are dissasembled.

Could it be the indicator of low pad material?

Not knowing how the NSX is set-up....some vehicles have a metal indicator that rubs or squeals when the pad reaches the point where it needs replacement.

Stop using the parking brake to drift, lesbos!

It is your brake pads. If they are track pads this is typical. If they are street pads, check thickness:).

Thats what Ive been thinking too, but I didnt know that they would squeak without pedal pressure as a warning. I thought the squeaking came only with braking.

I ordered new pads a couple hours ago. Hope to pic up this aft. I will report back!

As much as we would like not to, the pads occasionally do not retract completely off the rotor surface when the brake is disengaged. Keeping the pins lubricated help especially if you track the car or generate too much heat in driving. This symptom will also show up when you start the car after it has cooled and try to inch in reverse; does it squeal/grind then?

If you are using non-track pads, most likely they are close to be worn or it could be the pins - then again road debris might be a source too ...... process of elimination.

When the rear pads were worn the car made horrible sounds in reverse, I thought I had auto tranny problems, as well as squeeking except when the brakepedal was pressed.

yep! Brake pads! I swapped a new set back there and the squeaking is gone. I'm suprised with the noise they made which was very different than squeal. I had 8/32nds before last track day (hp plus) and looks like I went through some. Looking at the pad I pulled out, it LOOKS like there's tons left.

Thanks guys!

EDIT: reading up on pad material, it does appear that Ive got tons left on these. I have probably 8 mm on every pad, way more than the 2 or so mm that is recommended as a bottom level for change. So the squeaking is gone, possibly because I went in there are moved some stuff around, or maybe it will come back once stuff settles in again. Im keeping the pads for emergency use later
