Has anyone had any long term success with repairing the wire that leads to the rear spoiler LED lamps? I repaired the wire several months ago but it has broken again (it flexes where it exits the trunk lid (near the left-rear trunk hinge) and goes back into the body). The local Acura parts man has had difficulty determining and finding the part since it is not shown on their microfich display. Showing him the wire (while still on the vehicle) did not help clarify anything. What they received from their warehouse did not contain the retaining clip that attaches the wire to the gas filled trunk lid strut.
I don't necessarily have long-term success yet but I'm confident this method will hold:
Only 1 wire had been severed in my cars case. So I cut the other wire and shortened it a little to make their lengths the same. Then I just soldiered each wire back together. I put thin heat-shrink tubes over each connection and then a a larger one going around both wires - covering the whole job and looking semi-oem (remember - all 3 heat shrink tubes need to go on before the wires are reconnected). If you use this method be sure to get thin walled heat shrink tubes that remain pliable after they've been shrunk. So far I would say the trunk lid has gone through several hundred open-closes with no problems. I inspected it to make sure nothing was being cut or folded for a while after the job - but all is still well.
I originally used a crimp tube but it slipped off the wire after a few weeks so I went with this method.
About the strut bracket. I just ordered new trunk struts - I don't think they come with the bracket but if they do you're welcome to mine. I would say you need to take care of that before you fix the wire again. It's definitely not a long term solution but even elecrtical or duct tape - even zip ties should hold the wire to the strut.
