I think poor communication alone would be sufficient to make me want to avoid a shop. As Dave Ramsey says, I'd rather deal with someone who has the heart of a teacher, than someone who's more interested in parting me from my money, or is too busy to keep me informed about what it is that I'm spending my hard earned dollars on.
I'm grateful to have access to a shop like SOS, whose employees take the time to explain things that I don't understand (of which there are many!).

Nobody said the a/c issue happened when the cooling hoses were done. The a/c issue happened after the the coolant hoses were replaced then the head gasket blew and the engine was REMOVED. Possibly caused from the leaking center coolant hose. You show me how your going to remove the engine with out removing the A/C compressor while it still bolted to the engine. It can stay off to the side but your removing it from the engine moving it and possibly could cause it to leak. Yes I may be just a service advisor but guess what. I went to Evergreen Collage were I took a was in the HONDA PACT program. I may not be working on the cars but I think the info I give is correct. By the way you need to read the whole thing agian. I never stated a shop and I never said you must come to see me. Also just checked funny that you have made 3 post all about the shop that did the work on this vehicle.

It becomes a question of whether you trust the authorities. Some people refer to the police as "the biggest street gang in America."
If they're looking for me, I intend to make them get a subpoena and a search warrant to do so. No need to hand over my calling card for free and expose myself to unnecessary harassment.

Repair work continues... 02 rear valence and CT exhaust for me!
Coming along nicely! Is your CT exhaust the new one made by CT Engineering, the one with separate mufflers? I have the new one as well. How do you like it?
Any chance your going to Cars and Caffeine (Oct 13)?

Nope, it's the old school one. It was a question of what I could get locally on short notice that I liked. I'll probably replace it again with a brand-new really nice exhaust at some point - just wanted some sort of improvement over stock.
Not sure about the 13th. Depends if I'm free and if I have the car back and running smoothly by then. I was in the middle of troubleshooting a couple of other issues when this happened... Car might spend the rest of the year in one shop or another, lol.

I wish I could say it was worth it... LOL... but for all the stress and hassle, and the reduced value of the car, I'd rather just buy the shit myself out of pocket.

If your pursuing the DV claim by yourself, I think your in over your head on this one and going to court may is not advisable. I know their are some companies who charge around $800 or so and they'll do all the work for you. It may take 2 years or so but in the end you get a check. Could be anything from $1000 to $5000, no idea.

Yeah, there are lots of things to try before going to court so I'm going to try them!
BTW for anyone who's interested, the independent appraiser I used came up with $3700 as the amount my car's value has diminished on account of the accident. This after a $9800 repair that included minor frame straightening.

Long-term update: Car has been driving great and there does not appear to have been any long-term fallout from the collision repairs. Hooray!
Since this is my "grouse about problems caused by having brought the car to Hilltop" thread, and not to reopen old wounds, but I did want to share this with the community... Almost five years later working on the car bit by bit I am still finding things they messed up.
I was going through the O2 sensor wiring since I am replacing all four, I had disconnected everything and removed all the sensors but one of the wires still wouldn't budge... now mind you Hilltop is the last shop to have had the valve covers off when they were doing the head gasket. They have not seen the car since the last time I updated this thread.
That would be an O2 sensor wire pinched between the head and the valve cover, the insulation having been completely destroyed by vibration over recent years of driving.
I am amazed (amazed!) that it didn't get through the coating on each individual wire, which surely would have shorted something, blown a fuse, and definitely lit up a code.
Amusingly enough the reason I am replacing the O2 sensors is that I got a code for bank 1 sensor 1, which is the rear bank, whereas this is the extender wire for the front bank upstream sensor (since I have CT headers which relocate the O2s).

Nice!!! Proof that Honda bond seals pretty much anything. Even if your in a "pinch".

For what it is worth, when I tried to discuss diminished value with my insurance company they said that if I thought THAT highly of the NSX (and its originality)...I should have had an "agreed value" policy.
That being said, my insurance company was going to just pay out (salvage the car) and then get reimbursed by the insurance of the guy charged with the accident fault but they said that since he agreed that he was 100% at fault (and so did the police report) I could go after him and his insurance company to "make me whole"...which I did for a few thousand $s more.
