RE: Best "Spirited" Street Driven NSX Brake Pads...

Hello everyone. I did a search and I could not find a definitive answer to what I have questions about... Between the DALI Street/Track Brake Pads, Portfield R4S Brake Pads, & the Hawk HPS Brake Pads, which of these is BEST for my street driven NSX? I don't track my car, but I drive "fast" sometimes on the street. I am concerned with rotor wear, longevity, resistance to fade, and ESPECIALLY noise and dusting. I am assuming these brake pads all perform about the same when it comes to braking performance on the street, whether it be normal or spirited driving. PLEASE EVERYONE, leave me as many opinions and POV's as possible on this. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

BTW, Did I miss any brake pads that are comparable to the ones I just listed that are good for mainly street driving?

the porterfields and Hawk will dust like CRAZY. If you like clean rims, do not get these, I wipe my rims down every time I get home due to the porterfields.

If you dont track or autox your car, stock or the dali ones will be fine.

It may be just me but I don't think you need aftermarket pads for the street.I never induced fade street driving, anyone else? There are too many pluses with the stock pads for street only, imo.

So should I get the DALI Street/Track Pads or OEM? I do "get nuts" once in awhile and get up to about 120-140, as well as getting on the brakes a bit while having fun....I don't drive like an old man on the street. I am 25 and sometimes get into some VERY spirited driving. Can the OEM pads handle that with ease? I have the DALI pads right now, but am wondering if I should change to a different pad. I don't want to glaze, warp, or do ANYTHING bad to my rotors/pads so that my steering wheel shakes when I hit the brakes, due to something being messed up with my brakes.

If anyone knows what pads Vaughn was using on his car at xpo,he had stock calipers and I was impressed with the braking performance, but I stick to my stock recomendation fwiw.

THe stock pads seem expensive!

A local dealer quoted $250.00 front/rear for pads!!!! Is this normal?

The Axxis Ultimates are about $100 for the set, shipped. Why the gap in price?

What is so wrong with the Axxis front pad? Everyone in this thread that mentions the pad says to use a different pd up front.

Are the Axxis grabby under normal driving conditions? Do they dust/squeal?

Help.

What a coincidence...:)
Have just finished my very first time front brake pad installation all by myself. Took me about two-and-a-half hours, including mistakes. Most time was lost in getting the caliper-pistons back so I could fit the caliper over the new pads. Pads are the AXXIS Ultimate from Dali Racing.
Have just driven around for about fifteen minutes, accelerating and then braking almost to a stop about ten times. So far these pads don't squal at all (which I expected). At this moment they don't feel much grabier than stock but then again, it was only fifteen minutes, so...
give me a brake ;)

Still have to bleed my brakes but hey, I need the car tomorrow and it's almost 1 am so I think that's enough for now.

MvM:
I need to change the rear brake pretty soon, can you please let me know more about the axxis brake? does it dust a lot? do you know the life time of it compare to the oem? does it brake about the same as the OEM? Let us know after you drive more and have a better idea. Thank you very much

NSXER119,
No problem, will do in this very same thread (if it's not closed by then). As far a usable life, since the Axxis are cheaper than OEM, I don't mind if they won't last that long. Also, I do track my car (sometimes) and that seems to make a lot of difference in brake-pad life.

MvM, Are the "DALI" Brand Pads in all actuality Axxis Ultimate Pads? Who makes the pads for DALI? I still don't know whether I should get OEM, DALI, or even the Axxis Ultimate pads yet. I mean, I DO only drive on the street, but Idrive aggresively enough sometimes to warrant concerns about brake rotor warpage, fade, and possibly messing up the pads. Are the DALI pads that close to OEM in all important aspects, that buying the OEM pads is a better choice? Which pads last longer, OEM or DALI? Could someone with experience with DALI pads rate them on a scale of 1-10 compared to OEM with regard to hot & cold performance, rotor wear, dusting, longevity, noise, and any other pertinent aspects. I have the DALI pads now, will I LOSE performance in ANY of these categories by getting OEM pads?

As far as I know the Dali Racing AXXIS pads ARE the Axxis Ultimate brake-pads. They are one and the same. If you absolutely want to make sure, why don't you mail Mark from Dali and ask him.
As for the Axxis pads on my car, they seem to work fine. Today I was driving with two friend, playing around a bit and at times we were going pretty fast. I was really pushing the brakes at some points. My first feel is that the Axxis-pads have a little more 'bite'. I don't exactly know the friction level of the Axxis pads and OEM pads though, so it's hard to guess. One of my friends told me they are similar to the Ferodo 2500 pads which have a friction of 0.42 mu if I remember.

if anyone has tech ? about Axxis pads which are made by mintex give Andi Lin a shout at Cobalt.

Found some more info on the Axxis Ultimate Pads at the manufacturer. No friction data unfortunately.

Did some heavy braking today (intended). Pads do feel better than OEM in my opinion but will do my brake-tests after bleeding the brakes AND fitting the Axxis pads on the rear also. I just need a tool to be able to turn in the emergency brake before I will be able to do that though.

AXXIS Ultimate

edit:

Where did you find the $100 price for a set of AXXIS pads?

They are $59.00 for the front pair on Ebay. Anyone have a better price? I need to do my rears soon, so I might change them all out for the AXXIS.

I just went through my first set of Axxis Ultimates in the front and I must say they are a great street/light track pad. Large improvement over OEMs for spirited street driving, but not too grabby. Did great on my first trip to the track also. I know that my stock pads would have never made it! Andy Lin at Colbalt set me up with several pair and had a great deal for any members from NSXPrime.

I agree with docjohn. The street pads should be JUST FINE for your needs. Low dusting, no squeal, and great performance.

DON'T get Porterfield R4S pads. They do not stand up to aggressive driving. I have a set in which the metal backing plates softened when they got hot, and bent around the brake piston.

Yes, absolutely. I put quite a few track events onto my '91 with OEM pads the first few years I had it, and they handled it fine.

I have never induced fade on a broken-in set of stock pads, even on the track.

$250 for front and rear pads is a good price. Top quality aftermarket pads will cost that much as well.

Because the stock pads will stand up to 120-140 mph and track use without worry.
