It's a slow afternoon so I started looking at items on my desk to see where they are made.

1) NEC phone system-Thailand
2) Swingline stapler-Mexico
3) XM Reciever/Remote-Malaysia
4) Phihong computer speakers-China
5) Dental typodont/study model-Japan
6) Pen holder-China
7) Atomic clock-China
8) Linksys router-China
9) Westell modem-China
10) Simplified Communicator System-USA
11) Dunkin Donuts coffee mug-USA
12) Compaq laptop computer-China
13) Lipton diet iced tea-USA
14) Logitech mouse-China
15) Pilot G2 Pen-Japan
16) Radio Shack recargable AA battery-China
17) Kirkland Signature tissues-USA
18) Brother P-Touch-China
19) HTC cell phone-China
20) Office Depot calander-USA

Looking at the list, only 20% of the items that I use daily are made in the USA. It is no wonder why this country has turned into a pile of dog cr@p.

Basically all I can do is buzz my staff while I drink coffee and iced tea, read my calender, and wipe my runny nose with products all made in the USA. Everything else that I look at or use is manufactured outside the USA.

The stuff are made in USA not any good, look at US made vehicles. High salaries, but low quality. Why make them? We are only good at making bombs, airplanes and military equipments.

A few years ago I had my kitchen and bathroom remodeled, all the way down to the studs. Here's where the components were made.

Refrigerator - Kitchenaid, made by Whirlpool Corporation, don't know where made
Oven - Kitchenaid, made by Whirlpool Corporation, don't know where made
Cooktop - Dacor, made in California, USA
Hood - Zephyr, made in California, USA
Dishwasher - Bosch, assembled in the USA of components of USA and European origin
Kitchen Faucet - Grohe, made in Germany
Kitchen Sink - KWC, made in Switzerland
Kitchen Cabinets - Omega, made in Iowa, USA
Bathroom Sink - Kohler, made in Wisconsin, USA
Bathroom Fixtures - Hansgrohe, I'm not sure whether they were made in their plant in Atlanta USA or in one of their plants in Germany
Floor Tile - Made in Italy
Granite Countertops - Slabs mined in Brazil, fabricated in Illinois, USA
Pendant Lamps - Made by an artisan in Champaign, Illinois, USA
Stained Glass Windows - Made by an artisan in Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

As you can see, most of the components were made in the USA, in at least four different states. And, of course, all of the labor (not just installing the components, but also the entire infrastructure - electrical, plumbing, heating) took place in the USA too.

Which one is the best?

The one with the breathalyzer. If you don't get that joke, ask Slamstorm (Alan), Queenlives (Hal) or Chopjazz (Ken). They will more than happy to explain.

This thread reminds me of this video on 'Labor Value to Zero'.
