I guess you never drive then. :D

Also, I have to represent for Seattle- we get 30 inches a year, not that much, and mostly in winter months.
Seattle's reputation for rain is based on how many days it rains, not on the amount of rain.

Here is the average number of days per year in which there is precipitation in:

Seattle: 155
Miami: 131
Chicago: 125
New York: 119
Atlanta: 116
Dallas: 79
San Francisco: 63
Las Vegas: 27

And here is the average number of days per year in which there is precipitation outside of the winter months (IOW, excluding January, February, and March):

Seattle: 103
Miami: 112
Chicago: 93
New York: 87
Atlanta: 83
Dallas: 58
San Francisco: 32
Las Vegas: 18

Here is the average amount of precipitation per year in inches in:

Miami: 55.91
Atlanta: 50.77
New York: 42.12
Seattle: 37.19
Chicago: 35.82
Dallas: 33.70
San Francisco: 19.70
Las Vegas: 4.13

And here is the average amount of precipitation per year in inches outside of the winter months (IOW, excluding January, February, and March):

Miami: 49.43
Atlanta: 35.44
New York: 32.62
Seattle: 24.28
Chicago: 30.24
Dallas: 26.93
San Francisco: 9.18
Las Vegas: 2.78

Source here.

So it rains on a lot more days per year in Seattle than elsewhere. But when you look at the amount of rain, don't move to Miami. :D

As it was once said, there are lies, damn lies and statistics....interesting stuff, Al Roker ;)

All I can say is I have lived here since June and 80% of the time it has been blue skies and nice..but everyone keeps saying the summers ARE nice but "wait for winter"....so we'll see- check me in Feb ('course Feb in most of the MidWest and NE is no holiday).
I liked the Vegas weather except for Summer, so go figure.

I have found 3 things to be true since moving here:

1) Seattle has alot of Micro-climates like SF- weather really varies from place to place within the metro area, you will get rain, PC, sunny, etc all in one day sometimes

2) Locals love to tell newbies like me how much it rains- the joke is that locals say "Yeah, it rains alot in Seattle, dont move here"

3) Mariners are the Buffalo Bills of MLB

Keep smiling

At least a couple of us are going to the Infineon track tomorrow. Rain is forecast. This should be the supreme test of self control after running flat out at NSXPO in perfect weather.

Keeping our fingers crossed.

Hehe, running Sears in the rain was a lot of fun today. I guess there were 5 of us who did not mind getting our cars and ourselves wet ;).

I disagree.

For a while (not so recently), the Buffalo Bills were the team that could get to the Super Bowl, but couldn't win it. They did it four times in a relatively short period.

The Mariners are the best team that can't even get into the playoffs. The better analogy in MLB - the team that gets into the playoffs every year but almost never wins the World Series - is the Atlanta Braves.

Sorry for the tangent.

I guess there were 5 of us

Track junkies.

Turned out to be a pretty interesting day with rain and mud sheeting across the track in places. I actually hated to see the track dry out in the afternoon. The squeal of street tires in the dry gets old. Are we sick or what? :p

Drive in rain?!?

Negative ghostrider........the pattern is full.

Actually, I would like to say that I DON'T drive in the rain, with Miami's unpredictable weather it's impossible not to. It can be nice and clear. Go driving a few miles and drip..drip...pour..you caught in the rain. Usually, I turn my arse right back around and head for home.

Why?

Well, some of the veterans here knows of my ill experiences in the rain :(

I need to get my arse on the track and get a better feel for my beloved before I can feel comfortable driving in the wet.

How many of you drive your car in the rain without guilt?

Rain or shine, with 0% guilt!!! It is a car that, believe it or not, Honda designed with a fabulous paint system to be driven in the rain. Newsflash - the car is made of aluminum, so it will not rust.

Soapbox mode - I simply don't understand why somebody would buy a car and not drive it just because of rain. Winter ice on the road, I can understand, but rain?

As far as the "other driver on the road", that also applies to dry weather driving, as well.

Hmm, think I'll go buy a Rolex but not wear it because of (insert reason here) _____ .

In March 2002 I was hit at 10mph by another car that suddenly moved out from a parking space in my car. It was raining.

When we went out of the car he said: "sorry I did not see you because your headlights mixed in with all the reflexed light on the wet ground".

Tell me that driving in a city, when it is getting darker at evening (5-6:00pm), the rain is not causing you some seeing problem? Spcially because of the reflexed light...

Anyway, I was a victim of the "other driver while raining"... :(

PS: he paid a new front fender, a wheel, a tire, a front upper+lower bumper and a headlight. Plus labor. Totaling over 12000$!

I have owned my NSX for several years now and based on past posts on this board I have avoided rain as much as possible (not always possible in Florida) and driven very carefull in rain when I do encounter it.

I went to Roebeling Road raceway this weekend for a DE and it started to rain (pretty hard) durring one session. I was amazed at how well the NSX did in the rain (I was still able to drive quite fast) but I did find my limit on turn 6 under power when he car did a snap spin. I had really no warning before it happened and would have been very difficult to impossible to save.

Lesson learned, performance pretty good in rain but little warning when you have hit the limit.

My NSX is stock, 16/17" wheels, Stock Yoko's street tires (with decent tread) and new shocks.

Not only that, theoretically your car is not "safe" anywhere. Mine was hit in a parking lot at the motel in Watkins Glen this summer. We watched as someone backed right into my parked car as we were yelling at him to stop. As I posted earlier, I did 8 HPDE events at the Glen this season with 6 of them being in the rain. The only "incident" with my car involved the hit in the parking lot.

Stop worrying about a little rain and drive the cars. You will get a lot more enjoyment from driving your NSX than by just looking at it in your garage.

So very well said!!!!!

Morbid mode - buy an exoticar on Friday, it is raining on Saturday so you sit at home pouting all day 'cuz you can't (no, re-phrase that to you "wont") go for a drive, and you die on Sunday.

Did you get a chance to enjoy your NSX? A rather "evoking" thought isn't it, Evoking? Now go drive!

Why yes as a matter of fact I did. I drove it Saturday night and enjoyed the rain (I HAVE driven my other NSX's in the rain so don't assume I'm up tight). Then I enjoyed washing it yesterday!

My favourite shot. In Laguna drizzling rain.

That's Not What You Said

I HAVE driven my other NSX's in the rain so don't assume I'm up tight.

But your very first post implied that "you are uptight" because when it is raining you won't drive.....reference the following that you said in your originating post.

I'm going through withdrawl symptoms. How many of you drive your car in the rain without guilt? I know I can wash it and all but it seems wrong to drive it today even though I'm dying.

Never assume that a post to be literal or the general rule. We all ask each other for advice or feedback when we really often don't need it. It would be silly to assume that any of us really cant decide what exhaust, wheels, or that we even need feedback on our cars.

Its all in fun right!

Except w/o face-to-face interaction and w/o hearing the tone of one's voice, there is nothing to go off of when reading words of a post.

Or in the same way, you go driving on Saturday while it is raining instead being at home waxing the NSX as you should, after some mimnute a piece of the ex space station MIR falls on your NSX and you die. That is about as logical...
 :p

It is pouring in Portland today

I washed my car yesterday and drove it to work today in pouring rain. In Portland, if you cannot do it in the rain, you cannot do it. Enjoy it. It can always be washed again.

I'd rather not drive my NSX in the rain...especially since I have a dirty SUV parked outside. Fortunately, the wet stuff doesn't frequent SoCal. :D

Right on Ken ........ let's show all those woossies some true grit by posting pictures before washing the cars ...... I will have mine up soon, I am waiting for a high noon exposure and I have never seen my car this dirty in five years of ownership  ...... good thing I had a heavy coat of 3M wax applied just in time for NSXPO ......... :p

But I am still trying to figure what special product Kip used for his red NSX to stay so clean  Sure let's start the debate re Zaino vs. Zymol unless that is Comptech will soon introduce their new car care product line ..... ;)

And yes Ted, we are certifiably sick to do this when we have the choice of doing it under all other more ideal weather conditions. There is a medical term for it: track junkies :D

I was also very happy after they fixed it. New parts, no rock chips on bumer, new wheel=no curb-scatches, shiny shiny headlight glass, ... I considered the car a mix between a 1991 and a 2002! :D :D :D

The parts were produced in January 2002, I saw the Tochigi boxes that were sent to the dealership via Belgium! :) :) :)
