Hi Guys,

this saturday I am going to change my oil for the first time with my new Accusump installed, and am looking for some pointers/advice...Shad from Driving Ambition was gracious enough to email me a step by step list, but I had a few questions on them and since he is out of town and may not be able to respond by tomorrow, I wanted to post it here to see if anyone had input from their experiences.

Step 1: turn on the Accusump
(turn on just the accusump, or do I crank the engine over and leave it in idle?)

Step 2: add 100psi of pressure to the bottom of the Accusump
(again, is the engine running at this stage, or is the accusump valve open but the engine isn't on)

Step 3; drain the oil and change the filter just like normal.
Step 4: fill the engine with about 6 quarts of oil
Step 5: turn off the Accusump and set the pressure in the bottom of it to 12 psi.
Step 6: start the engine, let it warm up. Shut it off just like you normally do with the Accusump (5k rpm turn the accusmp on and off). (do i turn on the accusump before starting the car here like I normally would, or do I turn car on, let it warm up, then turn accusump on then off, then shut car off)
Step 7: fill the engine with oil until it is on the top dot (about 2 to 3 quarts).

(is that it, do I do anything else with the pressure after this? Is there a way to make sure everything worked ok? What pressure should Accusump read fully charged and closed? or in its other states)

My oil guy did it differently. Unsure if the difference is meaningful. We would basically dump all the oil from the pump at idle, drain car, fill car, rev car to fill pump, turn pump off, check oil level.

Make sure that the pump has dumped all of its oil before the car is drained but most importantly, make sure that sufficient oil is put back in.

Once the car has oil, rev it to get its oil pressure up and to let the pump fill. Turn off the pump. Confirm pump is full by looking at gauge. Check oil level on the dipstick.

What you ABSOLUTELY need to avoid is measuring the oil when the pump isnt 100% full. Once you get driving, it will pull oil from the system and you may end up oil starved.

I would pay extreme attention to the amount of oil put back into the car.

You want to empty the accusump before draining your oil.

Turn on the accusump and let it drain into your sump.
Pressurize the accusump to force the piston forward to ensure it is empty.
You do not want to run the car when you are doing this since the oil pump will try and put oil back into the accusump.

Then change the oil.

Once your oil has been changed like Shad says warm up the car and check it with the engine off. You want to set the level with the accusump pressurized after oil is hot.

Step 1: turn on the Accusump "car is off"
Step 2: add 100psi of pressure to the bottom of the Accusump "car is off"
Step 3; drain the oil and change the filter just like normal.
"Turn on accusump after oil is hot."
Step 7: fill the engine with oil until it is on the top dot (about 2 to 3 quarts).
