Question about the APEX AFC and VTEC Control

Only experience is word of mouth from a friend. Performance gain was close to none.
IMO, the money can be spent better elseware (sway bars, etc.)

I used to have Field vtec controller on my '97 Prelude. The only way to gain "few" horsepower from the unit is to dyno tune it depending on what kind mods you have. My friend also dyno tuned his vtec controller on his Type R and gained 15hp, however, he said his Type R felt slower for some unknown reasons so he took it out after few months.
From what I observed from my Prelude, at low end the car seemed quicker but vtec didn't kick in as strong as before and I sold mine afterwards. Final thoughts: Don't get it.

I have seen a Japanese tuner gain 15hp from a N/A engine by electronic tuning. But that is not using a VTEC controller. It is a HKS FCON V. This is a stand alone engine management unit very much like the Motec system. the unit itself is $1000, plus the dynos times, it will get expensive.

FCONV is not a stand alone computer, it goes along with the OEM via Harness. I used to have it on my EVO VI and works very well, but you have to have a very good know how for setting it up.

Enrique is right, FCON V is not exactly like Motec being a stand alone unit. But I guess what I was trying to say isthat they are not just your average chip in the ECU electronic mods. They are very complex and requires a lap top for tuning. In that respect they are similar to the Motec stuffs. I want one!

"The F-CON V not only adjusts the fuel management system but can also adjust ignition timing and cancel each limiter function that is in the factory computer. It can be used for up to an 8 cylinder sequential injected engine, reading all signals of fuel supply, injection timing, ignition close angle and speed of each cylinder independently, altering data if desired. F-CON V controls the engine fuel and ignition map completely, with no changes to the stock CPU. Speed and rev limiter cut is also read and can be eliminated. The F-CON V can be used as a stand alone unit (no factory computer). The F-CON V uses air flow, pressure, throttle position 1, water pump, intake air temp, speed, and all other cylinder signals of the stock computer. It also uses pressure signals from the HKS Pressure Sensor, and output signals of all other existing HKS components such as the GCC, VPC, etc. By recalculating data from the original map memorized inside, it is possible to control functions more precisely than the stock computer. F-CON V contains a self diagnostic function which can determine errors not only in the F-CON V main unit or each input signal, but also the air flow, pressure, crank angle, throttle, water temp, and intake sensors. F-CON V stores up to 4 different fuel and ignition maps with access through the dip switch on the front panel when adjustment is desired."

$1000 for the device isn't that expensive compare. Well, it is but if you can afford a NSX and add something like an exhuast system that costs 2-3 times more then the average Civic, Teg, Lude exhuast then you should be able to buy a ECU system of the sort that cost more. Just my opinion on things.
NSEX mentioned that "car seemed quicker but vtec didn't kick in as strong as before". That is good because the car's power curve is being flattened. It doesn't matter how much horsepower you get at the end but that the POWER CURVE increases at the end. And when you have a VTEC controller, its suppose to do that.
