Question about Oil

Why would you want to?

Honda's engineers specify 10W30 as the best viscosity oil for the NSX. With 10W30, you can drive on the track all day long without consuming a drop of oil. The reason for not using the recommended viscosity is...?

My friend has a really expensive 20Qt pail of Mugen Racing oil. It is 5w40, so I was wondering if it would work. Retail price is like $20 a quart, but I would be getting it for next to nothing.

I'm so confused with this oil thing. I know honda recommends 10w30 but one honda tech told me 5w30 was better to reduce lifter noise at startup. Then I was told 0W40 was the best oil for any car because of its characteristics.

I don't know but I have been using Mobil 5W30 with OEM filter for all my life and I'll just stick with that.

Different oil weights will have absolutely no effect on lifter noise. I'd think twice about that tech's concepts. The Honda engineers put a lot of thought into their oil recomendations - I use what they recommend.
